emeis Ireland are looking for kind and caring Healthcare Assistants to join our team to enhance and support an excellent quality of daily life for our residents.


We are recruiting in: TLC Maynooth,Co Kildare


JOB PURPOSE: To plan, implement and supervise the provision of quality care, in conjunction with Residents. To ensure Residents retain their dignity and individuality. To be involved in the general activities of the Nursing Home. To maintain a safe and secure environment for Residents, Staff Members and Visitors


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Care:

1. Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting Residents, when required, with all aspects of daily living.

2. Support training and supervision of junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Nursing Home, under the supervision of senior Staff Members.

3. Assist Residents in all aspects of their care needs (e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual). Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring Residents retain their comfort and dignity.

4. Pay particular attention to assisting Residents who have limited mobility, or physical / learning difficulties making the best use of aids provided.

5. Closely monitor Residents who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems.

6. Assist in the promotion of continence.

7. Complete, observe & review care planning needs for Residents, and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company's policies and procedures.

8. Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with Residents and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Nursing Home.

9. Answer Nurse call system, giving assistance as required.

10. Report on well-being of Residents to staff nurses.

11. Carry out regular checks on Residents at intervals determined by senior Staff Members.

12. Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.

13. Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Nursing Home's disposal of waste policy. Ensure the Nursing Home's resources are used appropriately

14. Clean and maintain equipment used by Residents / Relatives e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles etc. Ensure the Nursing Home is kept clean and tidy.

15. Ensure that all clothing and resident belongings are recorded and clearly marked.

16. Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with the Company's policies and procedures.

17. Assist Residents who need help during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc). Assist with serving of food / drinks as requested / required. Wash up as requested / required.

18. Escort Residents travelling to and from the Nursing Home e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc.

19. Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Residents' personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Residents.

20. Establish and maintain relationships with residents that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.


Other duties:

21. Participate in Staff and Resident meetings as and when required.


Training and Development:

22. Maintain professional knowledge and competence.

23. Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.

24. Participate in relevant FETAC training to achieve required qualifications.


Health & Safety:

25. Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, colleague, self or another.

26. Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Nursing Home's Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures.

27. Report to the Home Manager, or the Maintenance Operative, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

28. Promote safe working practice within the Nursing Home. 


General:

29. Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Nursing Home.

30. Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.

31. Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.

32. Ensure the security of the Nursing Home is maintained at all times.

33. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.

34. Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.

35. Carry out Blood Pressure monitoring on the instruction of the Staff Nurse in charge.

36. Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.


Leadership:

37. Senior Carers are expected to provide support to their colleagues by leading by example and motivating and guiding their colleagues in the administration of care.


All employees must adhere to the dress code as described at induction. Personal Protective Equipment must also be worn as directed and in full compliance with Health and Safety Legislation where applicable. 


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS Required:

  • Genuine interest in, and experience of working with a similar Resident group.
  • To have achieved FETAC Level 5 qualification in Elder Care or equivalent.
  • To be a strong team player.
  • Willingness to participate in further Training.
  • Must provide Garda Vetting clearance in line with H.I.Q.A. requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels. English language ability must be such that the staff member is competent to communicate effectively with residents in relation to speaking, listening, reading and writing.

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience in the basic use of a computer
