Senior Housing Lawyer

We are currently working in partnership with a London Borough, who are recruiting for a Senior Housing Lawyer to join on a minimum six-month temporary contract, though this is likely to be a 12-month contract.

This is a full-time position with a rate negotiable based on candidate experience. The role is offering remote working, however Court appearances are mandatory.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Holding responsibility for the overall day to day management of the progress of the cases and the work of the Temporary Accommodation Team, as well as being expected to provide advice and support on the more complex cases
• Dealing with complex case work and advice arising within the Social Care and Housing team with focus on the Council’s strategic functions with regard to housing, homelessness and issues relating to community safety
• Managing and supervising the performance and development of lawyers
• Representing the Council before courts, tribunals and other bodies
• Deputising for the Principal Lawyer to represent the interests of the Director of Legal & Democratic Services
• Providing expert advice on law and practice as well as the preparation of reports to Council cabinet, committees and sub-committees

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

• Must have significant experience within one or more areas of housing or community safety and be willing to develop experience in the other
• Ability to obtain and evaluate evidence, prepare complex cases and advocate effectively
• Ability to allocate, co-ordinate and manage workloads effectively

Working hours:

• 35 hours per week
• Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm
