Job description

Imagine a future where you coordinate and control the 34-400kv high voltage networks that allow offshore wind farms to deliver renewable energy

Join us in this role where you’ll provide high voltage control services as per our Electrical Safety Rules from the turbine interconnection array cables at 34kv up to the 400kv grid connection points. You’ll carry out remote switching activities to meeting the UK Grid Requirement and to provide a safe working environment for your colleague working on site.

Welcome to UK West Operations Regional Support
You’ll be part of HV & Transmission Operations team where you, together with your colleagues, will play a key role in controlling, operating, and maintaining our HV electrical networks to consistently deliver renewable energy to UK’s electrical distribution infrastructure. Our department ensures the energy our wind farm’s produce can make its way to UK homes and businesses through meticulous adherence, grid code compliance, and continuous improvement of working practices to optimise the availability of our HV equipment. We provide HV Control and engineering services to all wind farms throughout the UK and drive collaboration globally to strive towards a world that runs entirely on green energy In order to achieve these department objectives, teamwork and a supporting and collaborative culture within both our own team and with other departments is vitally important.

You’ll play an important role in:

  • providing HV Control Services to all UK HV authorised personnel to provide consent to begin the HV switching activities
  • acting as point of contract for our electricity system operators, transmission system operators, and offshore transmission owner stakeholders to ensure HV Networks are configured
  • implementing generator and transmission instructions from national grid for OTS, MW, frequency, voltage, and MVar setpoints
  • carrying out remote switching operations on equipment ranging from 34kv to 400kv as per grid requirements or work requirements
  • approving switching schedules, safety documentation, and work procedures for a variety of work activities on complex HV equipment
  • providing HV specialist and control training to other team members for them to progress down the road to authorisation.

To succeed in the role, you:

  • have completed a HNC in electrical engineering or similar
  • have previously been authorised to carry out HV switching
  • have experience with transmission, generation, or renewable energy
  • have experience with control and software systems to operate and interrogate HV electrical equipment
  • have a proactive, result-oriented, and systematic approach to your work tasks
  • are equipped with good communication skills and speak and write English fluently.

Maybe you’ve read the above and can see you have some transferable skills, even though they don’t quite match all the points. If you think you can bring something to the team, we still encourage you to apply.
