Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Belfast - Permanent

REED Technology are delighted to partner with an educational organisation who are seeking to recruit a Senior Infrastructure engineer to join their excellent team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, ongoing management and service quality of the computer architectures; and additionally to be the lead technical specialist responsible for the implementation, development and support of all University corporate compute platforms, hypervisor configurations and virtualisation management platforms, incorporating all hyperconverged, cloud based and hybrid configurations, inclusive of all resiliency configurations, capacity management, recovery capabilities and associated management tiers.
Responsibilities

• To be the lead technical specialist, and technical manager in the design and implementation of the company computer architectures and virtualisation technologies

• Responsible for the maintenance, management and ongoing enhancement of the quality and resilience of the managed computer and virtualisation services

• Ensuring all computer and virtualisation service implementations are managed in accordance with certified and accepted technical and operational standards

• Lead the design and implementation of Cloud hosted and As a Service alternative service delivery models, and its associated capacity management and integration into the current IT Service Portfolio.

• Contribute to strategic planning, propose architectures for the development and lead in the design and implementation of service configurations

• Contribute to the design, development, management and support of the corporate UnixLinux platforms, Backup and Archiving solutions, Data Recovery and Data Protection implementations and Enterprise Storage configurations.
• Lead Infrastructure and Operations project teams and participate in project boards, including planning and managing projects, their resources, teams and budgets

• Provide specialist Virtualisation development advice and expertise to the Enterprise Infrastructure Manager

• Contribute to the technical specification and procurement of computer and virtualisation technologies and management platforms

• Deputise for the Enterprise Infrastructure Manager when required.
• Provide a fault analysis and diagnostic service
• Participate in the planning, specification, and lifecycle management of computer infrastructure

• Maintain effective technical relationships with vendors and suppliers of hardware, software, and consultancy

Essential Criteria.
• Degree or postgraduate qualification in an Information Technology, Computer Science related discipline or demonstrate appropriate level and range of professional experience
• Experience of deploying, managing and supporting VMware and vCenter technologies in a large organisation
• Demonstrable operational experience in the design, specification, implementation and management of one of the following:

• Linux/Unix hosting platforms.
• Enterprise Storage Architectures.
• Backup and Archival Technologies.
• Data Centre Network Technologies.
• Disaster Recovery and Data Protection solutions

• Experience of architecture design, implementation, and platform support for physical and virtual Enterprise scale Compute configurations.
