Contract Type: FTC- 4 months (15 April - 15 August)
Salary range : GBP45,000 - GBP55,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Job Introduction
2024 will feature a busy summer in the sporting calendar: in football, Scotland's men will take part in the Euro 2024 finals in Germany, followed by the best athletes across all sports competing at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.
BBC Sport Scotland serves audiences across digital, television and radio covering football, rugby and a wide range of other sporting events and personalities. We are the home of Scottish football with rights to domestic, European and international football covering men and women. Scottish football, and then some. With digital at the heart of what we do, we are looking to recruit a SENIOR JOURNALIST to join our team.
Main Responsibilities:
  • The SENIOR JOURNALISTwill help to provide a breadth of quality reporting on sporting news, features and engaging content on Scottish sport.
  • They will liaise with the Online team leader and Assistant Editor to plan, discuss and deliver our daily output and live sporting events.
  • The journalist will help to promote original content, be responsible for subbing and publishing copy, while maintaining our editorial standards. They will curate our online indexes, ensuring that our digital offering continues to serve our growing digital audiences.
  • Responsibilities will also include providing forward planning and production support, successfully dealing with editorial issues and communicating with our colleagues in News and Salford.
  • The successful candidate will liaise with our social media and television production teams on shareable content and other ideas.
  • They will work mostly in our Glasgow newsroom in Pacific Quay, but may be utilised as a reporter at live sporting events.
  • The successful candidate will have a wealth of experience and be able to call upon contacts within Scottish sport to bolster our news coverage and feature content.
  • They will work to tight deadlines, be able to handle breaking news, demonstrate an ability to keep calm and deliver clear instructions to more junior colleagues on the production desk.
  • They will be creative, possess an understanding of what chimes with our digital audience and have a passion for Scottish sport.
Are you the right candidate:
  • We're looking for a journalist with extensive experience in digital production and evidence of working within a multi-media newsroom.
  • The successful candidate will possess sound news judgement, be able to work effectively under pressure and be able to communicate clearly with our existing team.
  • The candidate will have an ability to write clear and concise copy, sub other people's copy and deliver digital content to a consistently high standard.
  • They will possess a strong knowledge of Scottish sport, its sporting figures and have a passion for story-telling to serve our audiences.
