Job description

Guildford Accountancy & Finance team are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier to join the team at an award winning, top 100 local legal firm with modern offices, a family friendly feel, established Company that has a 5-star rated service.


This permanent role is ideally suited to an experienced Legal Cashier looking for the next step or someone already working as a team leader within a legal organisation.

Vacancy Details
• Salary £40-50,000 (Depending on experience)
• Full time: Monday – Thursday, 08:30 – 17:30, Friday 08:30-17.00
• 25-27 Days Holiday PA (depending on Christmas closing)

• Location: Guildford Centre (Due to location parking is unavailable on site, local options available or train station is 5 minutes’ walk from the offices)

Duties include:
• To supervise banking functions including bank reconciliations.
• Dealing with petty cash including monthly reconciliation.
• To supervise and process client and office accounting transactions including postings.
• Responsible for credit control, ensuring bills are paid within a timely basis.
• To supervise and assist in the sending of monies by electronic transfer using CHAPS
• To assist with the control of designated client deposit accounts including monthly
• reconciliation.
• To supervise and train the trainee Legal Cashier in all aspects of Legal Cashiering.
• Checking bills before engrossment and sending to the client.
• Dealing with any accounts queries as may arise from time to time.
• Advising the Finance Director on the application of SAR in respect of transactions being
• carried out.
• To ensure the filing and administration of the accounts department including filing of Money Laundering identification sheets is kept up to date.
• Preparation of monthly summary of bank SAR reconciliation.
• To supervise the printing of ledgers and photocopying in preparation for the annual SAR
• audit.
• To assist generally the Finance Director with any matter that may arise to ensure the smooth running of the department.

• Solicitors Account Rules Compliance


The ideal candidate:
• Excellent working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules
• Candidate ideally to have 10 years previous experience within a similar role or ready to step up into this role.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical and organisational skills to manage and prioritise a busy workload
• Comfortable working to deadlines and targets
• Excellent IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products, such as Excel
• Experience of FinTec & other practice management systems
• Attention to detail
• ‘Can Do’ attitude
