- Maintains an authoritative knowledge of the UK’s strengths, reputation and relevant trends in the Creative Economy, developing long-term partnerships at the highest level with relevant organisations to ensure programmes and projects will deliver according to the British Council’s cultural relations objectives.
- Contributes to the development and delivery of the thought leadership strategy for the British Council’s Creative Economy focus, so that the organisation is recognised by external stakeholders and audiences as a respected, credible authority on the role that strong and sustainable creative ecosystems play in cultural relations.
- Represents the Creative Economy portfolio of programmes and projects within British Council and externally to enhance its reputation and to build collaborative opportunities. This will include a good experience of how work in the other three global programmes also contributes to the UK’s Creative Economy narrative.
- Builds and maintains external networks and works closely with the Director Creative Economy to develop strategic business partnerships to increase impact of the programme.
- Develops trust-based relationships with key partners, network-organisations, opinion formers and stakeholders to promote projects and programmes as activity that supports the partnership work in the UK and that will offer opportunities for UK organisations.
- Liaises with partners and stakeholders to maintain external involvement in the planning and delivery of the programmes and projects.
- Develops a network of relationships with external organisations capable of delivering projects in an international context, supporting them to develop capacity in international working through advice and training as appropriate.
- Sets and oversees comprehensive work plans to support the delivery of programmes and projects and liaising with internal and external staff across the globe to ensure high quality, timely delivery and consistency and coherence within the global programme.
- May provide programme leadership to small or medium-sized projects within the Global programme framework
- Contributes to the effective decision-making and planning for programmes and projects.
- Champions an inclusive organisational culture where staff have opportunities for continuous professional development. Actively contribute to the British Council’s anti-racism action plan and EDI strategy to mainstream EDI and become anti-racist in our cultures and practices within our organisation and in our programmes, particularly through a time of change.
- Identifies and manages the organisation, production and submission of high quality, market responsive bids/tenders/proposals/sponsorship appeals, ensuring timely and appropriate input from all necessary internal stakeholders/experts/functional advisors. Ensures compliance with agreed internal governance/review/sign-off arrangements.
- Represents the British Council at customer/client/partner presentations and negotiations, ensuring the commercial/strategic interests and professional reputation of the organisation are protected and promoted.
- Strong, up-to-date understanding of the UK’s Creative Economy and how policymakers, arts funders, HEIs, sector skills organisations and commercial creative industries work as part of the ecosystem.
- A good network of contacts derived from experience working in the sector at senior management level.
- A good track record of successful bid writing and managing pursuits within the cultural sector
- Ability to write high-quality technical Creative Economy proposals and bids or sections of cross-disciplinary proposals based on detailed knowledge and understanding of the Creative Economy sector
- Experience devising, commissioning, and managing programmes and projects delivered through third-party organisations
- International experience of building cultural connections and networks in different contexts with partners in an arts or creative industries context.
- The ability to write effectively for a variety of different audiences.
