Hours: Full time

Working Pattern: Hybrid, 40% minimum or pro-rata equivalent if job share in an office site

About this opportunity

Lloyds Banking Group is the UKs leading bank with a mission to 'Help Britain Prosper'. We're giving our technology a complete upgrade to modernise our systems, our data and the way that we use it. At the heart of this is Finance and understanding the income we've generated, the costs we've incurred and the many attributes that guide the business decisions. A crucial role is bringing clarity and insight from our vast data sets to support those business decisions.

We're on a journey to transform how we store and provide data. It is re-plumbing data to a common data store - the Google Cloud Platform - and making it easier for data technicians to access the data, with appropriate tools to interrogate and enrich the data. At the same time Group Finance has its own significant transformation project to move the bank's General Ledger from SAP to Oracle and to simplify the way we support and process the financials for the bank.

Want to hear more?

The Finance Data and Analytics Office (FDAO) is the Divisional data team for Group Finance. Our aim is to 'Empower through Trusted Data'. Within FDAO the Data Analytics and Insights team work with our end users across Finance to understand their data needs to support the business. We take their questions and provide answers in the form of amazing analysis, inventive data manipulations and logic, or intuitive, visualised dashboards that help the users read their data story. Our data users, and the data they need, are wide and diverse. We support Finance across all of the Bank business Divisions. Consequently we could use data from any system, for any product, and for any customer. Our work usually starts with data from one of the main data warehouses. This is then manipulated, prepared and provided to the users as insight via a visualisation tool - Tableau or Power BI.

You'll have a team of nine colleagues across Edinburgh and Leeds/Halifax. You'll engage with the FDAO Business Partners who face into the Divisional Finance teams and will help understand the business requirements, their scale, and provide outline solutions for them. Additionally you'll liaise with the FDAO Data Management team to ensure that we control our data access and provision safely and securely and will work with the FDAO Data and Engineering teams, who will provide you with the base data to satisfy your needs. And then you'll create magic with your team! You'll help them bring the data to life; creating intuitive stories, adding valuable insight, aiding the users with new perspectives into their data.

You'll also coach your team - supporting their personal growth, building their skills for the future, and nurturing a strong team. You'll need to develop a particularly close collaboration with the second Data Analytics and Insights team based in Cardiff. You'll also help make FDAO a fantastic place to work - supporting our agenda on inclusion, growth and having fun.

There'll be lots of opportunities for you to get involved, be seen and to make a real difference. And through all of this, the underpinning thread is your role in Helping Britain Prosper.

What you'll need

  • Strong Leadership - you'll have a team of highly capable data professionals around you. Your role will be to bring the best out of them, allocate the right work to them, develop their skills and help them grow both as individuals and as a team.

    • You'll be able to demonstrate leading multiple work tasks simultaneously. The team will likely be running 2-3 big projects, plus smaller work, fixes and some regular BAU responsibilities

  • Background in data - you'll understand data, likely having progressed through various data roles through your career. You'll understand the opportunities that strong data-led insight provides, but also the challenges of getting the right data, of good quality and providing automated solutions that deliver insight and flexibility to its users.

    • You'll be able to explain your involvement in cutting edge complex work translating data into insight. The team have recently worked on a project to look at the transaction flows of Retail customers between the Personal Current Accounts and their Savings products - both within LBG and to wider banks. They've then used visualisations to bring intuitive insight to this complex data set

  • Fantastic stakeholder skills - you'll lead the team across a portfolio of different work, some big and some small. You'll need to form relationships with many stakeholders and be confident dealing with business colleagues at all levels of the organisation

    • You'll have a proven track record of broad, trusted stakeholder relationships. The work of the team could intercact with any of the three main customer divisions - Consumer, Insurance or Corporate - or to one of the Central Finance teams. So you'll need to build networks and relationships across many Finance colleagues.

  • Big picture thinking - you'll need to keep an eye on the future. You'll need to understand the structure of Lloyds Banking Group and the role of Finance within it. You'll need, in time, to understand our current technology, our future plans, and the future potential of tools to support ever demanding data needs.

    • You'll have experience working on transformation projects or bringing new technology into your team. Our LBG General Ledger is migrating from SAP to Oracle, and the bank has a strategy to move most of our data for insight to a single Cloud platform

  • Great values and behaviours - and all the time you'll show great values and behaviours - incorporating the Lloyds Banking Group Values of being Bold, Trust, People First, Inclusive and keeping Sustainability at the forefront of all we do. You'll work to make LBG better and enrich your direct team and the wider team to be a great place to work.

    • You'll have a history of getting involved with wider initiatives. We have great local events, learning opportunities and groups bringing the team together on key focus areas. As a Senior Manager you'll be expected to participate these across the wider team or deeper into your location
