THE ROLE
Simply, this role is about delivering unignorable, unforgettable, persuasive – and ultimately effective - marketing propositions, projects and campaigns. Specifically, you will run a small team of Marketing Managers and Executives, and will be responsible for developing a mixture of go-to-market plans, content, sales tools, and multi-channel campaigns. You will be focused on helping to stimulate client conversations, generate new leads, differentiate our services, and build our brand. In addition to thinking strategically and commercially, the role will be very hands-on – you will contribute actively to message and content development; make the most of different channels; and figure out how to convert communications into opportunity. You will also analyse what is working and what isn't, and will advise the firm on how to improve marketing effectiveness.
Working alongside our Head of Marketing, Business Development colleagues, the firm's Partners, an internal team of PR, Web, Events and Design specialists, and external agencies as required. Together, you will deliver the most admired, memorable and effective marketing communications and campaigns not just in the legal sector, but in all of B2B marketing. We consequently believe the role is the best, most surprising role in business marketing, with potential limited only by your creativity, commerciality and drive.
The role will require occasional travel in future.
DUTIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing and inspiring a small team of Marketing Managers and Executives
  • Advising partners and business development professionals on both the best ways to use modern marketing communications to help them achieve their growth and brand ambitions; and helping them to write or improve their messages and value propositions.
  • Helping our firm identify whether account-based tactics or mass marketing tactics are appropriate on individual projects - managing all key stakeholders to buy into your recommendations – and then delivering ambitious but achievable marketing, content, client outreach and campaign plans. You will base your campaign plans on client, market, competitor and marketing data analysis.
  • Identify the optimum channel mix to ensure project or campaign success, covering email, direct mail, web, social, SEO, advertising, events, print, sponsorship, PR and any other appropriate channel on a case-by-case basis.
  • Set objectives and KPIs; manage projects against those objectives; report on progress; and identify key lessons learned and improvement plans where required.
  • You will supervise the development of a wide range of marketing content, including writing sales presentations, web pages, event invitations, social media posts, advertising and more besides.
  • Bring your own creative ideas to the table to make our communications stand out from the crowd, but also partner effectively with colleagues and specialist agencies to ensure our communications and campaign plans have the best chance of getting noticed and converting.
  • Project manage virtual teams of specialists, including PR, Events, Design, Web and others, to ensure effective delivery and follow-up of projects – on time and on budget.
  • Contribute additional ideas, commercial thinking and energy that will help us stimulate client demand, generate more new leads and help us differentiate our brand in the market. Keep abreast of new developments in the world of marketing and advise the BD Leadership Team if we should be embracing new approaches.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • We are looking for a candidate with the vision, commerciality, gravitas, tenacity, creativity and marketing skillsets to help our firm stand out from the crowd, earn client attention and to turn attention into opportunity. We are seeking candidates that can think both smart and big in terms of communications, client outreach, propositions and campaigns - and have the drive, influence and commercial nous to turn them into results. If you are brimming with ideas and the drive to deliver award-winning marketing communications and projects, you'll fit in well here.
  • You will work directly with senior, influential members of the Firm and so strong stakeholder management skills are essential. You will bring energy, passion, and positivity to the firm, and must have the personal influence to persuade senior people to embrace modern marketing. Advising people, saying no constructively, changing and winning hearts and minds is central to this role.
  • You must have at least 10 years of experience working in B2B marketing, and a background in professional services and partnerships is preferred. A candidate from financial services or real estate industries may also prosper here.
  • You must have a strong, proven track record in working effectively with Business Development professionals.
  • Your work to date must include a strong background in lead generation and/or account-based marketing. Your portfolio of work to date would include a mixture of tactical activity including most if not all of the following: in-person or online events; market research; social media programmes; content marketing; account-based marketing (ABM); direct mail; thought leadership; PR; PPC; SEO; advertising; brand building; email marketing; video marketing; influencer activity; or sponsorships.
  • You must be able to demonstrate how you have worked towards KPIs and used analytics to inform decision-making and improve marketing performance. You must be analytical, results-oriented and be able to set SMART objectives.
  • You must be able to help the firm to write and then convey sales messages in a distinctive, persuasive, and client-centric way. Strong writing skills are absolutely essential.
  • You must be highly organised and a brilliant project manager, with the ability with the ability to write effective plans, prioritise workload according to business need, and ensure completion against tight deadlines. Attention to detail is critical in law firms and, because we operate in highly competitive markets, and so you must be able to operate at a high quality in demanding situations.
  • Experience of using a Marketing Automation platform would be highly advantageous. (We are a HubSpot user).
  • You must have experience of managing other marketers – creating the right environment for them to flourish, including setting goals, tracking progress, investing in their personal development, and inspiring them to achieve what they didn't think was possible. You must also feel very comfortable leading virtual teams, briefing agencies, managing suppliers and managing budgets.
  • You must be an effective communicator, a capable problem solver, have the ability to say no professionally, be able to handle escalations in a calm and professional manner.
