Job description

At Jacobs, we'll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed - today and into tomorrow. With more than 55,000 people in 40 countries, working at Jacobs offers an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.
People are Jacobs' greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent.
In addition to the benefits you'd expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay and free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships. We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.
Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. We're happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.
About the Opportunity:
The Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team has supported the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) submarine Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme for over sixty years, delivering independent Nuclear Safety and technical advice in support of both in-service operations and future designs of Naval Reactor Plant. This includes working with a wide range of technical specialists to provide effective, balanced and proportionate advice to some of the most complex, challenging and important projects within the UK.
With the security of a long-term arrangement to continue this support, an opportunity has arisen to support the next generation of nuclear submarines. This role would ideally suit an experienced Safety Case engineer, however, applications are welcome from civil nuclear or other high hazard industries. Consideration would also be made towards those earlier in their career looking to step up into a more senior role, with the provision of comprehensive domain training and development opportunities.
This is ideally a full-time role, based in offices at Birchwood Park, Warrington. However, hybrid working practices are in place and consideration to adopt a flexible working pattern will be made for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment of fault studies aspects of Nuclear Safety Cases in support of the development of the Naval Reactor Plant Safety Cases.
  • Co-ordination of advice across a range of technical disciplines to ensure that the MoD are provided with impartial, balanced and proportionate advice.
  • Being the point of contact for the MoD customer, attending relevant safety and technical meetings on behalf of INA with a range of stakeholders.
  • Delivering to agreed schedules and budgets.

Here's What You'll Need:
  • Degree or equivalent professional training in science or engineering.
  • At least 5 years experience either authoring or assessing Safety Cases, with a focus on fault studies (predominantly DBA, but also PSA, SAA, hazards characterisation) and safety methodologies.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, and the ability to explain complex topics using simple language.
  • Ability to work directly and effectively with the customer, and to provide direction and guidance across a range of tasks to a collaborative team consisting of multiple technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrable Safety Case training (such as AV1 or 2) and knowledge or experience of Relevant Good Practice for Nuclear Safety Cases are desirable.
This role will require security clearance, therefore applicants should be of UK Nationality, hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK
