JOB TITLE: Senior Platform Engineering Lead
SALARY: £100,657-£118,420 per annum
LOCATION: London
HOURS: Full-Time - 35 hours
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
A great opportunity for a Senior Platform Engineering Lead based in London to join our Data Cloud P latform team within Data & Machine Learning Platform.
We are a Platform Engineering team focused out on building out a cloud-native, managed, data analytics platform on Google Cloud Platform for Lloyds Banking Group. We design and deploy capabilities from ingestion to curation to insight with the goal of enabling the data engineers, analysts and scientists to unleash the value of data.
The team’s goal is providing those capabilities as scalable, self-service offerings that allow the data community to focus on curating data via data pipelines without needing to worry about the underlying infrastructure.
As a Senior Platform Engineering Lead in our Data Cloud Platform, you’ll be:
- Design ing , implement ing and support ing the cloud infrastructure that powers applications, data workloads, and our route-to-live.
- C ontinually challenging, motivating, mentoring, and supporting your engineering teams.
- Providing leadership on data Platform Engineering as a capability at LBG and support role in engineering guilds .
- W orking with the data community to engineer modern cloud-native solution that enable them to unleash the value of our data.
- F ocussing obsessively on scalability , enabling data engineers across the bank to build data products using our platform.
- A dvocating for Engineering, providing a voice to engineers within the teams, identifying and supporting you r teams in resolution of impediments and issues .
- C ontinually developing yourself with industry best practice and tooling used across the engineering team.
This is a leadership level role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within a feature team and great passion for coaching and developing people in a “player-coach” model.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
We welcome applications from candidates with varying backgrounds, but as a minimum to be successful in this position, your application should demonstrate the below:
Technical Skills
- Cl oud Engineering - Experience with any vendor beneficial though GCP is a bonus
- Infrastructure as code - Any vendor beneficial though Te rraform is a bonus
- Containerisation - eg Docker
- Kuber netes and its ecosystem
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines - eg. Harness, Jenkins, Spinnaker , GitHub, GAR
- Experience deploying data capabilities to cloud is a bonus - eg. BigQuery , Dataproc , Dataflow, Spark on GKE , DBT on GKE, GCS, BigTable , BigLake , Cloud Composer
Behavioural Skills
- Systems thinking - the successful candidate will bring a systemic approach to problem solving.
- DevOps Engineering Mindset - The successful candidate will be obsessive about providing a great engineering experience, automation and rapid release of value .
- Agile methodology - Experience working in self-organising teams working through a backlog to deliver key capabilities to users .
- Leadership - A desire to nurture and develop engineering talent
