The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK.  We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

About the role

We are looking to recruit a Senior Policy Advisor to join our Junior Doctors Committee team within the National Negotiations and Representation (NNR) Directorate. The Junior Doctors Committee (JDC) considers and acts in matters affecting those engaged in hospital practice in the training grades .

This is a full time, permanent contract.

As a Senior Policy Advisor you will:

  • Support the Head of the Junior Doctors Committee and other advisors within the team
  • Help deliver plans to engage with members and stakeholders, and contribute to the development of guidance and support materials.
  •  Work with colleagues across the BMA to help us shape the national debate about doctors’ working conditions and pay.
  •  Provide expert advice to member relations colleagues on complex individual and collective member queries.

To be successful as a Senior Policy Advisor you'll have:

  •  Ability to grasp new policy concepts quickly and undertake research and analysis of policy issues.
  • Experience of developing open and evidence based policy
  •  Excellent writing skills
  •  Ability to draft policy reports and briefings
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with counterparts in the directorate and in relevant stakeholder organisations.
