Job description

This is a unique opportunity to play an important role in DfT’s policy work on a high-profile Air Quality legal case as well as developing our strategic approach to Air Quality and wider stakeholder interactions as part of a growing environmental brief.

This newly created SEO role will sit within the Environment and Adaptation Strategy Team (EAST), a division that is striving to reduce transport’s environmental impacts and adapt to our changing climate. EAST is a highly motivated, friendly and high performing team with big ambitions, and you will have scope to make your mark.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Head of Environmental Legal Challenge Strategy in delivering our response to Air QualityLegal Challenges, including in the preparation of submissions, witness statements and other High Court documents when required.
  • Delivering policy development, advice and briefing to support our response to new statutory Air Quality targets, including leading on engagement with key stakeholders and shaping and delivery of research projects.
  • Supporting the division’s wider work on the government’s Environmental Improvement Plan, including development of policy and advice, interactions with internal and external stakeholders such as the Office for Environmental Protection, and briefing and correspondence.

Additional information

A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
