This role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working, 28 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays and 11% pension after one year of service.

London - Hybrid working (6-8 days in the London office per month)

Salary £48,000 -  £54,000 per annum

About the role

Can you lead positive change for consumers in the Digital space? 

At Which?, our policy team underpins the work we do to influence and shape consumer issues affecting each of us every day. As we expand our policy work to tackle ever more complex digital issues, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Policy Adviser to join us in the digital policy team and specialise in online fraud prevention as well as other areas of digital policy.

What you'll be doing: 

Which? Senior Policy Advisers think strategically to get to the heart of complex issues, understand and anticipate the policy agenda and develop evidence based solutions that impact the lives of consumers for the better. 

Reporting to the Principal Policy Adviser, you'll be a member of the Digital and Data policy team responsible for leading policy to tackle online fraud and contributing to policy development across a number of other consumer harms in the digital and data space. 

Making fraud a UK national priority is a key organisation impact for 2024/25. Which? was the instigator for mandatory reimbursement for APP fraud and we were instrumental in ensuring that the Online Safety Act included measures against fraud.  You will be responsible for enabling the Online Safety Act's implementation, working alongside the regulator as well key stakeholders including big tech, banks and telecommunication providers.  You will be responsible for evolving the development of fraud policy that will continue to reduce the burden on consumers to stay safe from online crime.

The role involves horizon scanning, contributing to policy strategy, reviewing regulatory proposals from government, identifying and filling evidence gaps, developing policy positions, writing policy reports and advocating Which? policy positions.  

As our digital world evolves, Which? is at the cutting edge of digital policy development and enablement. We champion consumer protection in collaboration with businesses and government.  Alongside fraud, the Digital and Data team are working to build robust protections for consumers in the deployment of Artificial Intelligence, the new applications of Smart Data and exploring where online practices and the use of consumer data can be deployed in a way that champions consumer's and prevents unintended harms.

The role sits in the wider Which? advocacy team and boasts access to internal resource and expertise including research, economics, legal, campaigns, external affairs and parliamentary affairs. You will often be working in a multidisciplinary team environment to deliver.

Essential criteria includes: 

  • Demonstrable experience formulating digital specific policy positions and writing reports to influence government and policy maker audiences 
  • Demonstrable experience of influencing the development or deployment of policy and regulation in the UK digital environment - -ideally relating to online safety for example the Online Safety Act, Content Moderation, Trust and Safety or other related issues.
  • A clear understanding of the UK digital policy landscape
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams 
  • A demonstrable passion for digital, data and technology in all its forms.

Our interview process usually involves 2 stages:

  • Sometimes a chat with the hiring manager by phone (typically 30 minutes), followed by
  • An interview in person (approximately 45-90 minutes) consisting of values and experience-based competency questions and a role related task.
