Experience needed: An experienced and versatile town planner is required with particular experience in planning policy development to support the work of the Council s planning policy function for a temporary period. In particular, the following skills and experience are essential:
- At least five years relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years at a senior or principal officer level in planning policy at a district/borough/unitary council and the preparation of statutory development plans.
- Experience in progressing a local plan through a review process.
- An up to date knowledge of national planning policy, including the implications of recent legislation changes.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Main Duties: Under the direction of the Planning Policy & Infrastructure Service Manager (acting as Assistant Director for Place Development) and the Senior Policy Planning Officer (acting as team leader) assist with preparation of the initial stages of a Local Plan Review, including:
- Assist with drafting and editing the Issues and Scope consultation document.
- Working with the Policy Team and others in the wider Planning service on the research and preparation of background papers.
- Input to content for briefings and working group meetings.
The following policy areas have been identified for support where experience from potential candidates would be particularly desirable:
- Open Space
- Transport
- Green & Blue Infrastructure
- Minerals & Waste Planning
- Other Physical Infrastructure and Services
- Regeneration and town/local centres
- Demographic implications
- Neighbourhood Plans
- Housing products to meet different needs, e.g. self-build
Location: Hybrid working between Appletree Court, Lyndhurst and working remotely. Likely to be around 1 to 2 days office based per week but is negotiable.
Hours: Up to 37 hours per week, approximately 7 hours 30 mins per day (7 hours on Friday), anywhere between the hours of 8am and 6pm
Length of assignment: 6 months (anticipated to the end of July 2024)
