Senior Power System Planning Engineer
Our client is an independent electricity systems operator forNorthern Ireland who are at the forefront of innovation in the energy industry,enabling the transition towards a low-carbon, technology-enabled smart future.
They are actively recruiting for a for a Senior Power SystemPlanning Engineer to join the high performing Engineering team based inBelfast. You will have the opportunity to challenge yourself in a highlycollaborative team and take on a key role driving and supporting transformativechange in the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities:
·Identifyingfuture Power System needs and possible solutions by carrying out Power Systemanalysis such as steady state load flow, voltage, short circuit and transientstability.
·Developingand appraising system reinforcement options across multiple criteria includingtechnical, cost and environment, recommending the optimal solution.
·Conductingcost benefit assessments.
·Determiningoptimal methods for connecting generation and demand customers to thetransmission system and identifying associated transmission reinforcements.
·Liaisingwith customers seeking a grid connection, communicating technical informationclearly and effectively.
·Collaboratingclosely with NIE Networks to deliver complete and robust solutions for futurePower System needs and customer connections.
·Applyingthe Transmission System Security and Planning Standards.
·Applyingknowledge and experience in Power System modelling and simulation using PSS/E,Plexos and DIgSILENT Powerfactory.
·Mentoringjunior team members and contributing to a team culture that is solutionfocused.
·Writingrobust technical reports and communicating these clearly and succinctly tointernal and external stakeholders.
·Preparingpapers with the purpose of securing internal governance and external regulatoryapproval for Transmission Network Pre-construction Projects.
·Identifyingand implementing innovative solutions that can improve how the future powersystem is planned and delivered.
Knowledge,Skills and Experience
Essential:
·Anengineering degree with typically with 4+ years relevant experience andknowledge of the Power System.
·Ambitionto support the development of the transmission system to realise renewabletargets and demand growth, integration of new technologies on the Power Systemand, EU/UK energy policy framework.
·Abilityto solve complex problems in a fast collaborative environment, demonstratingstrong analytical and problem-solving skills.
·Competentin Power System analysis such as steady state load flow, voltage, short circuitanalysis and transient stability using Power System simulation tools such asPSS/E, PowerFactory, DSA tools, Matlab or Plexos.
·Practicalunderstanding of electrical infrastructure development with workingunderstanding of the development of overhead lines and cables, HV plant andapparatus.
·Abilityto work well within a team with flexibility in approach, including a strongability to work under own initiative to tight deadlines to bring projects tocompletion.
·Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on high quality reportwriting and ability to communicate technical matters clearly and effectively totechnical and non-technical audiences.
·Mentoringjunior team members in Power System analysis and planning.
·Abilityto work collaboratively across the organisation and with external stakeholderssuch as NIE Networks and the Utility Regulator to drive broader engagement aswe strive to transform the Power System for future generations.
·Competentin Microsoft Office systems.
·Clearand keen interest in continuous professional development.
Desirable:
·Anelectrical engineering degree.
·Competentin scripting and using Python to support Power System analysis.
