Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our theatre anaesthetic support team as aBand 6 Senior Practitioner in Ealing Hospital Theatre.
The post holder must be a registered nurse or registered ODP with recent experience as Band 5 anaesthetic practitioner in operating theatres in an acute hospital. You should be a confident ODP/Registered Nurse with recognized qualification in anaesthetic care including CEPOD and Trauma/ Orthopaedic.
You must be able to organise an operating list efficiently and act as a role model when leading the junior staff; with compassion and professionalism.
The role will involve working collaboratively with the theatre scrub and the peri-operative team to deliver safe and efficient anaesthetic and surgical care in theatres and satellite sites in Ealing Hospital. You must have good communication and flexible to support theatre management to improve service.
Ideally you should have first level degree or working towards it and competent in practice supervision and assessment. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide excellent surgical care experience to patients. You will also take part in the weekend, nights or on call rotation to support CEPOD and Trauma theatre. On occasions you may be required to work cross site.

  • To act as a team leader to an identified group of staff, monitoring and documenting the development of their clinical skills
  • Contribute to smooth and efficient running of the theatre
  • Response to emergency situations in theatre and in hospital if required
  • To establish, lead and maintain high standard of pre/peri and postoperative care
  • To contribute positively towards the delivery of a cost effective service, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand and assisting the clinical co-ordinators to keep within agreed resources
  • Participate in clinical supervision and assessment of learners in the department

  • To assist with the ongoing organisation of the unit, including responsibility for a designated area of practice within department on a daily basis, to ensure optimal theatre utilisation at all times, facilitating timely admission and discharge of patients
  • To deputise in the absence of band 7 Lead Practitioner
  • Develop and monitor performance of junior staff within Theatres Participate in the development of staff, ensuring appropriate skill mix and uphold agreed standards of care.
  • As appropriate, participate in disciplinary, grievance and absence management procedure
  • To actively support the process of risk management and health & safety – upholding relevant policies to promote this and ensuring incidents are reported appropriately (in writing) and helping identify ways of preventing errors and accidents to both patients and staff.
  • To participate in the allocation of staff in designated area of responsibility, producing the allocation of staff
  • To participate in the on call rota
