As a Children’s Social Worker at Luton, you’ll join a supportive learning culture. You’ll be able to influence change, challenge others and share your expertise.
Our ambitious Luton 2040 Vision – that no-one in Luton will have to live in poverty – is at the heart of everything we do. We recognise that our people are remarkable, talented, committed and passionate about serving our residents.
The people of Luton depend heavily on this council – and that means our workforce! Are you ready to realise the remarkable and help us deliver our vision?
We have three exciting opportunities available within our Children Services department to work as part of the Social Work Academy. This academy is a great opportunity to develop and give opportunities to develop your career in Social Work.
You’ll be supporting practice development of our Newly Qualified Social Workers [NQSW}s through their assessed and supported year of employment within the Social Work Academy.
The Social Work Academy also aims to:
Attract and develop capable, motivated, pro-active, and reflective Social Workers
Support NQSW’s to gain a comprehensive understanding of Social Work roles, responsibilities and Luton’s policies and practice standards
Support continuing professional development, to ensure sustained delivery of outstanding services to Luton’s children, young people and families
Promote evidence-based practice, informed by current research and grounded in theory
Facilitate values-based leadership at all levels, and promote a positive learning culture.
With your understanding of child development and family dynamics, you’ll make professional judgements, negotiate resources and plan interventions.
This may see you making informed judgements and high-risk decisions in challenging situations. No matter the case or task, you’ll always promote anti-discriminatory practice and empower others.
About you
You’ll have a great understanding of the Children Act 1989 and other key legislation. Importantly, you’ll also know how to communicate calmly and effectively with a range of people. This’ll help you to manage a range of situations confidently.
You’ll need to be able to demonstrate a high level of competence in the practice of child and family Social Work and be able to co-work with NQSW’s by guiding, challenging, advising and assisting.
We do ask you have Dip SW, CQSW or a recognised equivalent qualification, along with substantial experience in health or social care.
We’re a small borough with a real family feel. So when you join us, we’ll really look after you. You’ll only take on a manageable number of cases, have plenty of flexible working options and access to development opportunities.
If you’re passionate about doing remarkable work for our children, we’ll offer a generous pension and a relocation package of up to £8,000. So join our family and realise the remarkable!
