Job description

About the role

We're looking for a highly creative and experienced designer to join a multidisciplinary team working across core platform experiences, in particular our native apps and websites as part of the Telegraph’s Product Design team. As part of your role you take a leading role in a variety of projects and initiatives, as well as supporting Lead designers and the Deputy Creative Director across multiple work streams. As part of your role you will lead projects, as well as support and mentor other designers and their projects, maintaining the high standards and attention to detail across projects.

Working closely with Lead designers and the Deputy Creative Director; you'll be shaping the future of our core product experience, working on innovative formats to create experiences that are a pleasure to use and a joy to read. You'll use your experience and knowledge in designing, refining and testing ideas to establish direction, using our rich heritage for inspiration and be unafraid to challenge briefs as we look to the future, pushing the boundaries of what is possible to elevate and convey our journalism to the highest standard.

Your role will be to lead and support projects that go beyond expectations, that are thoroughly researched, tested and validated by customers. That works just as well as they look, pushing established as well as new technologies to elevate and enhance our experiences.

You are independent, autonomous and demonstrate an exceptional eye for detail and have experience in dealing with many different stakeholders. The successful candidate will be passionate about design and eager to work with wider teams in realising all design ideas through to delivery.

Communication is important so you will be comfortable presenting, and able to confidently justify your design decisions. You will be expected to interpret and implement the creative vision across a broad range of projects ranging from new strategic initiatives to support editorial, redesigns of our core templates, iterations to components and exploring new functionality and features.

  • You’ll be designing the experiences that make up The Telegraph’s digital platforms, using established as well as new technologies to elevate and enhance our products functionally and visually.
  • Lead and contribute to projects and larger initiatives that directly impact the future of our core product suite, establishing new components, templates and concepts to engage our subscribers and attract new ones.

  • You’ll be comfortable with running your own user research and testing and playing back your findings to stakeholders and feeding them into your design work
  • You’ll be keen to learn and comfortable with experimenting to find the best possible outcome.
  • You’ll be working on a range of projects, from the big to the small, the experimental to the practical. You’ll be comfortable juggling a few things at once, and always eager to try something new.
  • You'll be working as part of a team, collaborating with other designers, developers and journalists to come up with the best possible solution.
  • You’ll be comfortable working as part of a group, as well as alone, and able to articulate the rationale behind your design decisions to others.
