With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the Transmission Commercial team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.
A Senior Project Engineer provides specialist knowledge during the development of Protection and Control equipment within the Transmission business whilst working closely with vendors to resolve faults and defects with IED's.
They ensure business readiness for the introduction and commissioning of new plant and/or technologies through liaising with colleagues throughout the business and investigating any potential implications and using their expertise to overcome challenges faced.
Furthermore, a Senior Project Engineer reduces risk or protection maloperations and issues and ensures accurate reporting and analysis of any system incidents involving protection equipment and provides robust engineering investment information to Asset Managers across our Transmission network.
What you'll be doing
Communicate openly (formally and informally) within the Transmission Operations team.
Maintain strong working relationships with all departmental interfaces.
Maintain a safety culture and ensures that all Safety Legislation is implemented on all activities.
Manage customer service proactively and reactively as appropriate, to meet all customer service KPI's.
Interface with the OCC to optimise system performance.
Manage the development of assigned trainees. Contribute as an effective member of the Transmission Operations management team.
Assist in the development and delivery of robust transmission operational training plans.
Able to make balanced decisions, taking into account all possible information available, able to consult with others when applicable and anticipate/recognise possible outcomes.
Although confident to make own decisions, will refer to immediate supervisor or peers for either ratification of own view, or assistance in decision making when necessary.
Management of risk control framework and formulation of risk management strategy.
Be aware of and complies with Company Health, Safety and Environmental requirements working towards a zero-accident culture.
What you'll bring
Working knowledge of Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices.
Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Awareness of network development policies and procedures.
Developed customer service skills.
Knowledge of network and business data and network management systems.
General commercial & regulatory awareness.
Developed negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges.
Broad operational experience, particularly with protection and control equipment
An understanding of the fundamentals of Protection on a Transmission System
Awareness of digital substations and IED61850
Minimum Criteria:
Engineering qualification (HND/BSc/BEng) or at least 5 years relevant experience in a similar role
Computer literate (Microsoft Packages, Agile S1, Digsi, Test Universe, etc).
Full UK driving licence with no penalties and/or convictions
