Job description

Fixed term contract until March 2027

Wetlands are not only amongst our most nature rich habitats, they provide numerous benefits that can help mitigate the impacts of climate change. WWT is on a mission to restore over 100,000 ha of new wetlands to help reverse centuries of wetland loss in the UK, but also to show how critical wetlands are to our wider environment.

We are recruiting a Senior Project Manager to lead and manage WWT input to two major, funded, urban wetland restoration projects, Slough Sponge City andCommunity Bluescapes (based in Barnes, London). The projects will deliver multiple benefits for wildlife and people through a community co-production process, mitigating the impacts of climate change and flooding through nature based solutions.

Role Outline

  • To project manage the delivery of two major urban wetland restoration projects that will be co-created through engagement with local communities, Slough SpongeCity and Community Bluescapes in Richmond. Projects that will deliver multiple benefits for wildlife and people.
  • To work collaboratively with other partners involved in the projects including Slough and Richmond Borough Councils, the National Flood Forum and Barnes Common Ltd to maximise the impact of project delivery.
  • Work with our Community Action Managers and our partners to establish an effective co-production process with the communities living within the ‘Future Proofed Neighbourhood’ areas, to help to identify appropriate interventions that will build community resilience to climate change including flooding, boost health and well-being and aid urban nature recovery
  • To manage the co-ordination of project workstreams including ‘Community Engagement and Communications’ and ‘Monitoring and Evaluation’ through dedicated staff members and working closely with other WWT teams and specialist leads.
  • To manage the delivery of project interventions via the Nature Based Solutions Project Manager, involving multiple external and WWT stakeholders, local residents, consultants and contractors across feasibility, design, consent and construction stages, being aware of and mitigating project risks.

About You

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience who wants to make a difference on behalf of communities and wildlife in urban areas:

  • Previous experience of managing successful large-scale, complex, multi-stakeholder projects involving community engagement, managing consultants and civil engineering contracts as well as a strong awareness of current thinking and trends in community co-production and urban nature based solutions
  • Experience of project design, planning and evaluation
  • Proven experience in networking, partnership building and relationship management as well as an excellent track record of building and managing teams

The successful candidate will be able to work from home (or hybrid working from WWT London Wetlands Centre is possible). It is expected the role will need to attend project areas in Slough and Richmond on a weekly basis and as required for key meetings. A current driving licence is essential, as is a willingness to travel regularly, staying away from home as and when required.

If this sounds like you then click apply.

This is a unique and amazing opportunity to bring your skills to two major projects that will also reward you with new and replicable skills and knowledge for the future. Come and join our growing team and help deliver our vision of a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity that protects wetlands for wildlife and people. We conserve, restore and create wetlands. We are pioneers in saving wetland wildlife, both in the UK and around the world. At our 10 UK sites around a million visitors a year engage with wetland nature. We work internationally in key global wetland areas, balancing conservation with sustainable livelihoods and influencing national and international conservation policies.

In return for your hard work and dedication you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits including:

  • 33 days annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays, increasing to 38 days after 5 years’ service
  • Contributory pension scheme matching up to 7% (terms and conditions apply)
  • Life assurance providing 3 times annual salary
  • Access to a wide range of resources to support your health and wellbeing including our 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced family friendly policies
  • Cycle to work scheme
