Senior Proofreader

Salary: Up to £30,000p.a.

Hours of work: Full time

Hybrid Working: Hybrid working available with one or two days in the Colchester office.

Kameo Recruitment is pleased to be recruiting a Senior Proofreader to join a creative agency in Colchester. Reporting directly to the Quality Assurance Manager, you will collaborate closely with various teams to ensure the accuracy and quality of written content, images, and branding across various media.

You will also play a key part in shaping the editorial tone and voice of each client, contributing to the development and enhancement of content strategies. Your role will extend beyond meticulous proofreading; you will actively participate in creative discussions, offering valuable insights to refine and elevate the overall quality of communication.

Your keen eye for detail will be instrumental in guaranteeing a consistent and polished brand image across diverse platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Senior Proofreader:

• Ensure requisitions and briefs contain all necessary information.
• Review, evaluate, and correct written text, images (size, position, crop, content), branding, consistency, and misrepresentation.
• Assess work across all departments, spanning emails, ads, leaflets, brochures, social media, video, signage, and more.
• Familiarise yourself with and apply brand guidelines.
• Stay updated on language usage, grammatical developments, and new phrases.
• Sub-edit or smooth text to maintain a consistent voice when necessary.
• Collaborate directly with other departments to clarify or resolve queries, addressing work problems, misinterpretations, or potentially libellous material.
• Utilise Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite software.
• Plan work when necessary.
• Collect and store information with team access.

Requirements for this role:

• A degree in English, Journalism, Publishing or Publishing Studies, Media, or Electronic Media would be desirable.
• Proven experience proofreading, correcting, or editing written content in large documents.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of standard proofreading practices, procedures, and concepts.
• Thorough knowledge of the English language, including strong written English skills in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Copy-editing and on-screen editing skills.
• Ability to read and edit quickly without sacrificing quality.
• Working extensively on digital content and familiarity with the production of online and offline work.
• A scrupulous approach to detail and methodical working style.
• Motivation to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to stay focused throughout potentially long and technical documents.
• Good judgement to gauge necessary changes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to build working relationships.
• Ability to multitask, manage, and prioritise multiple projects.
