Senior Quantity Surveyor

Colas Ltd have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Area 9 team to provide support to the Commercial team with the administration of the Area 9 M & R Contract, (Highways Maintenance & Response Contract). Reporting to the Commercial Manager you will provide support and guidance to the Commercial team management of QS, AQS and Trainee QS. With this, you will be required to provide accurate and timely reports to support routine commercial requirements of the contract for month end reporting. The provision of accurate and timely commercial reports and advice to senior management team whilst monitoring contracts and reporting against the appropriate commercial targets.

Main ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS) you will be required to provide support and advice to the project operational teams. You will ensure value and cost associated with the various workstreams are reconciled and recovered via the contract mechanisms within Area 9 Contract. To provide support with pricing of new works activities in accordance with contract mechanisms.  You will work to ensure the continual improvement of processes, procedures, and tools to enable the monitoring and management of key commercial drivers e.g. change, cost, risk, certification etc. including a facility to check and audit. You will be involved in the administration of contracts and / or subcontracts including payment mechanisms, change procedures, and resolution of contentious issues, final accounts agreement and management. Use of programmes to support budget and risk management on a project. You will have knowledge of the development of a cost plan or spread of a tender budget along with identification of cost drivers. You will be involved in and understanding of the production of project trading accounts/reports illustrating profit/loss, overhead cost recovery and financial outturn forecasts for management purposes and their impact on company objectives. You will be able to understand the different risks associated with measurement and pricing carried out under re-measurement contracts, lump sum contracts and target cost/cost reimbursable contracts and design and construct contracts. You will be involved in the preparation, presentation, negotiation and agreement of interim and final accounts, including re-measurement in accordance with a standard method of measurement. Work closely with the Commercial Manager to ensure framework quotations and prices are issued on time and in accordance with contract conditions.  As a SQS you will ensure all commercial processes comply with Colas’ corporate governance and comply with group standards. You will perform other duties as may be reasonably required
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will preferably have a minimum 5 years’ experience within a Quantity Surveyor role, ideally in Highways. A degree in Quantity Surveying is desirable, not essential. We are looking for someone who has the relevant experience for this role. You will have excellent knowledge of standard forms of construction contracts notably NEC and Highways Maintenance. 

You will have excellent communications skill and managing skills. Experience managing/mentoring a team would be ideal. You will be able to prioritise and schedule objectives so as to optimise time, cost and quality. You will have a systematic and timely approach to decision making, problem solving and change management.
