The role The University of Bristol has an outstanding record in the commercialisation of research, ranking in the top 6 in the UK by many measures, including the number of Medtech and Life Science spin outs. In recent years two new regional industry clusters have formed around our spin-outs in the Life Sciences and quantum technology. The University’s refreshed strategy sets out ambitions to build upon this success. We are looking for an experienced individual to join the expanding Research Commercialisation team to lead on the commercialisation of projects across Health and Life Science Faculties, through licensing and new venture creation. What will you be doing? You will take a lead role on the commercialisation of health and life science research at the University, which involves: Working on a range of exciting technologies, supporting and directing their de-risking and then leading on partnering these with existing companies or creating new spin-outs to help take Bristol’s research towards impactful outcomes. Identifying and protecting intellectual property; evaluating commercial potential; devising development and commercialisation plans including providing commercial inputs to translational funding applications; marketing technologies; negotiating deal terms; and drafting agreements to underpin technology commercialisation. Building relationships and networking internally and externally with key stakeholders across the life science commercial and investment communities to drive the delivery of Research Commercialisation and to promote opportunities and successes. Leading a team of Health and Life Science Research Commercialisation Managers. You should apply if You want to help drive the development of an exciting portfolio of early-stage health and life science innovations through to partnering or new venture creation. You have the ability to critically examine complex research and assess optimum commercialisation strategies, and have knowledge and skills in intellectual property, business and technology development planning, marketing, negotiation, and communication. You have experience of working in Health and Life Sciences sector together with a strong track record of commercialisation deals, preferably including therapeutics, devices and/or diagnostics. You will have a degree in a relevant subject and ideally a PhD or RTTP designation (Registered Technology Transfer Professional) or equivalent work experience. You will be a driven team player with developed interpersonal skills.
