Essential Car Documentation- This post is a designated Essential Car User. Therefore, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work. You will receive the Essential Car User Allowance. Consideration will be given to disabled applicants who are unable to drive.

Driving Licence The successful candidate should hold a full clean driving licence as you will be required to drive a vehicle adhering to council regulations. 

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for aan Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders and it is available upon request.

Join our dynamic and compassionate EMERGENCY DUTY team dedicated to providing exceptional Mental Health care and support to our community, outside of office hours. We are committed to promoting well-being for individuals experiencing Mental Health challenges. We also provide social care and support to individuals citywide of  Manchester. We cover all three hospitals in Manchester as well as community assessments.

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in assessing, supporting, and advocating for individuals experiencing Mental Health crises. 

You will also assess and support individuals in social care crisis outside of office hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments of individuals experiencing Mental Health crises or social care crisis, ensuring their needs and risks are accurately identified and addressed. With safe discharge planning. 
  • Utilising the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation to safeguard the rights and well-being of individuals requiring Mental Health act assessments. 
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and policies to safeguard individuals within Manchester.
  • Accurately assessing the needs of individuals, supporting those people and sign posting as appropriate.
  • Providing crisis intervention and support to individuals in acute distress, including making decisions as an AMHP regarding compulsory treatment and detention when necessary.
  • Working autonomously and independently.
  • Lone working outside of office hours.
  • Participating in training, supervision, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in Mental Health and social care practice.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Psychologist registered with the relevant professional body.
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status, with experience conducting Mental Health Act assessments and interventions.
  • Strong understanding of Mental Health legislation, policies, and procedures, with the ability to apply legal frameworks in complex situations.
  • Strong understanding of social care legislation, policies and procedures. 
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal. Interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies and demonstrate empathy, compassion, and cultural competence in all interactions.
  • ability to work independently
  • Desirable experience to have worked on an adult Emergency Duty team.

Someone who can fit into the established EDS team.
 
You should have excellent skills in prioritising workload. Working knowledge of relevant legislation with regard to Mental Health Act and Social care referrals.
Someone who enjoys a challenge .Who can demonstrate working in partnership with other agencies and individuals and their carers/ families. Who is also able to manage conflict with the individuals they are working with but also the resistance at times from professionals and families.
Someone who is committed to their own personal development and also to share development opportunities within the team.
 
Working out of hours relies on enthusiasm from workers and being creative with access to limited resources. To have the ability to be flexible and manage in unexpected situations.
