Quantum Science(QS) is seekinga (Senior)Surface Chemistto join our R&D team based in Daresbury, UK. The (Senior)SurfaceChemist willplay a pivotal role in surface modification and functionalisation of colloidal quantum dots and other advanced nanomaterials for optoelectronic applications.

Main tasks and responsibility

• Plan experimental strategies and conduct the researchin surface modification and functionalisation of colloidal quantum dots and other nanomaterials to make them compatible with the host matrix and/or enhance their performance as required.

• Develop colloidal quantum dots inks for optoelectronic applications.

• Conduct routine characterisation of nanomaterials.

• Analyse and interpret data and suggest solutions to improve target properties.

• Provide guidance and technical support to other team members.

• Prepare progress technical reports, invention disclosure and patentsin a clear andconcise and timelymanner.

Skills and Experience

• A PhD in chemistry, material science or equivalent degree with proven research record in Surface Chemistry and interfaces science. Preferred independent post-doc or research fellow or relevant industrial experience for the senior role.

• Have deep understanding of semiconductor nanomaterials.

• Extensive practical laboratory experience and research in surface modification and functionalisation of semiconductor nanocrystals including solution ligand exchange and surface passivation/doping.

• Demonstrate creative and innovative to generate and implement ideas.

• Ability to plan, prioritise and address forthcoming issues.

• Strong organisation and influencing skills to effectively work with inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams within QS or of external partners to achieve project goals.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including IT literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Achieving project milestones

• Reporting results to Team Leaderin a timely manner

• All invention disclosures/ patents filed in a timely manner.

• All samples are sent to other teams and customers in a timely manner.

• Identify needed equipment and carry out procurement if necessary.
