HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.
Sustainability is a strategic priority for HSBC Asset Management and is a dynamic and rapidly evolving topic in the asset management industry. The sustainability office (SO) is a central team responsible for driving corporate sustainability strategy; setting policy; Industry Engagement; Governance and Oversight, and Culture.
We are seeking an experienced and pro-active professional to join as Senior Sustainability Manager. Reporting into the Head of Sustainability Delivery, the primary task of the role is to develop AM’s sustainability narrative, thought pieces around key sustainability initiatives, advancements in regulations and industry initiatives. Driving clear and consistent messaging is a critical requirement for our positioning and commercial activities. The role will also be responsible for supporting AM Global Head of Sustainability and AM CEO on preparing well-judged narrative briefings for panel events and other public and closed-door appearances.

In this role you will:
- Lead the development of AM’s sustainability storyline, spearheading efforts to enhance our sustainability content, collaborating closely with AM teams worldwide, as well as AM Communications and Marketing functions.
- Assist leaders in the SO to enhance performance in priority external engagements (e.g. One Planet Asset Managers, Impact Investing Institute), and represent HSBC AM in specific working groups.
- Spearhead efforts to enhance our reporting content in regulatory and voluntary sustainability reports like Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), Task Force on Climate related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and Stewardship codes to enhance our reputation.
- Aid senior leaders in preparing well-considered narrative briefings for panel events and other public and closed-door appearances.
- Keep current on topical and relevant sustainability issues, represent SO in content forums & drive other sustainability projects and tasks as required.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Prior Asset Management experience - practical and technical knowledge of investment management and sustainability topics is highly desirable. Demonstrated sustainability experience achieved through professional experience or additional education such as a CFA ESG certificate, CISL courses, or MA studies would also be desirable.
- Strong data and analysis skills with the ability to translate complex sustainability topics into clear and commercially relevant content. Strong editorial skills are essential for this role.
- Competency in strategic thinking and project management. Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to provide balanced assessments of challenging business issues in complex scenarios
- Strong initiative and personal drive, accompanied by excellent presentation skills. Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments, independently, and to see complex deliveries through to completion is essential for this role.
This role is based in London. The successful candidate will have to have the ability to commute to this location. There will also be a requirement to attend off-site industry events.
