Job description

This role will join our team to develop our journey into the world of code deployment supporting our development teams releasing code, developing pipelines and integrating best practice.

Our website has recently moved to Azure services with a Magnolia CMS and this role will have input into building, improving, and developing those services. You will have a solid understanding of Azure technologies and their management. You’ll either be certified to Microsoft Azure Administrator level or have equivalent experience.

We anticipate that this role will help our journey to embedding a Dev/Ops culture within our teams and is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in that direction.

To support this, we're looking for skills in that area, we’d like you to be certified to Microsoft DevOps Engineer or demonstrate equivalent experience. You will be familiar with Infrastructure as Code principles and have experience in using Terraform for deployments.

You’ll have experience in delivering changes for multiple teams and managing delivery pipelines.

Whilst we maintain an Azure infrastructure, we also have a busy datacentre currently utilising ESX to host a primary windows client server infrastructure and skills in this area would be a bonus to the work we deliver.

It is anticipated that this role will have a small number of line reports in future; so experience of line management is ideal, but if you don’t full support and training would be given.

In return we’re offering fully flexible working, we’d like to see you onsite once a quarter (or more if you like!) but we’ll never expect you to come to the office just to come to the office. We offer flexible hours and can adapt working patterns to suit (part time/compressed hours etc. ask us as part of your interview).

We’re also big on training, we don’t like our people to stagnate and so we invest in relevant training to help you grow and progress your career.

You also get that great feeling from working to save nature and being part of an organisation that’s doing everything it can to protect the natural environment. You can get stuck in on volunteer days and we encourage our staff to visit and engage directly with our teams on reserves across the UK.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain Azure Cloud infrastructure with focus on security, availability, and reliability
  • Embedding delivery of engineering requests through our operational teams
  • Manage timely delivery of Incidents, Requests and Changes in ITIL aligned processes
  • Support Digital Technology colleagues in using, developing, and building Azure infrastructure
  • Champion Operational requirements and Azure capabilities in design, build, and deployment sprints.

What we need from you

Essentials:

  • Good understanding of the Azure platform and experience in deploying Azure technologies. Ideally certified as Microsoft Azure Administrator
  • Working in a Dev/Ops culture and environment, ideally certified to Microsoft DevOps Engineer.
  • Hands-on experience of pipeline creation with github and Azure Devops
  • Applications are currently built on .net 8.0 and familiarity with .net environment builds and testing.
  • Mentoring and tutoring on cloud technologies
  • Confidence and ability to work and influence leadership and key stakeholders throughout the organization
  • You can coach and mentor other engineers on best practices
  • Able to collaborate cross-functionally with the business and technical teams

Desirables:

  • Experience of working in partnership with third parties to deliver infrastructure changes.
  • Experience of Magnolia CMS
  • Experience in provisioning Infrastructure as Code using Terraform source code
  • Supporting vSphere, ESX and related storage & hosting technologies.

We are looking to conduct interviews for this position from late July 2024. For further information please contact mike.courtney@rspb.org.uk
