Who we are

Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).

The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client ‘HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.

Brief Description
       

The role

We have an exciting opportunity within Network Rail High Speed for a Senior Technical Officer

The role of the Senior Technical Officer (STO) is to provide support to the Maintenance Engineering team and the Principal Technical Officer (PTO), as well as supporting the High-Speed Track Team. The STO provides support to the PTO and will deputise for the PTO as required. The STO role is vital to the safe on-time delivery of both Maintenance and Renewals at Network Rail High Speed.

A key part of this role will be to monitor asset performance, reliability, productivity, and efficiency.  You will provide technical guidance, support, and undertake survey and design work. Your experience will enable you to undertake technical inspections and investigations, arranging track monitoring and reviewing and reporting outputs. 

You will support the PTO and the Track Team in the delivery of their objectives to ensure that the Network Rail High Speed Track Team delivers excellence in terms of safety, quality and performance; and represents good value for money to our client HS1.

Network Rail High Speed has its own technical standards, you will assist the PTO to ensure the infrastructure is maintained to these standards during routine technical inspections.

Key Accountabilities

1.       Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements, plans and other instructions.

2.       Adhere to company policies and procedures

3.       Manage and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.

4.       Manage the preparation of work and resource specifications, method statements and plans.

5.       Provide technical support and guidance.

7.       Undertake and supervise technical tasks, survey and design work.

8.       Undertake technical inspections, tests, investigations and analysis of technical data.

9.       Prioritise work arising and agree work plans for the group.

10.     Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment.

11.     Manage information to update systems, databases and records.

12.     Contribute to your own development and that of others. 

Experience, skills, knowledge and competencies.

1.        Knowledge of technical support activities and techniques.

2.        Knowledge of design requirements, processes and techniques.

3.        Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.

4.        Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

5.        Able to coach, influence and develop others.

6.        Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.

7.        Ideally hold or be working towards and NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering/leadership subject.

8.        Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.

The role is based at (insert location), however frequent travel to our other office and site locations along the High Speed line is expected.

We follow a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range:

Band xx - £38990 (plus outer London allowance of £1,600 if based at Singlewell)
