Position Overview: Senior Transport Planner
Service Area: Environment - Climate Change and Transport
Reports to: Transport Strategy Team Manager
Your Team: Transport Strategy and Active Travel

The Role: As a Senior Transport Planner, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our borough's transport landscape. Working closely with the Transport Strategy Team Manager, you will lead the development of policies, initiatives, and projects aligned with our ambitious Transport Strategy. Your responsibilities include managing budgets, stakeholder engagement, and overseeing complex projects that contribute to our vision of a sustainable and well-connected community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert transport planning advice to support the council's objectives.
- Manage the development of policies, initiatives, and projects in line with the Transport Strategy.
- Lead the preparation of funding bids and manage grant funding effectively.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and partners to ensure the success of council projects.
- Oversee a varied and complex work program, including budget, stakeholder, and risk management.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Degree in transport planning, urban design, planning, civil engineering, project management, or a related discipline.
- One year of successful high-quality professional experience or four years of related work experience.
Experience:
- Working on improvements to public realm and transport network for large and medium initiatives.
- Delivering initiatives, policies, and projects within agreed constraints in a local government context.
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Outlook, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and one of the following programs: QGIS, Adobe Illustrator/Indesign/Photoshop, AutoCAD, MS Project.
- Ability to build relationships, manage projects, and adapt to changing circumstances.
Work Style:
- Hybrid working arrangements, with a minimum of two days per week in one of the council's offices.
- Core hours from 10 am to 4 pm, with occasional attendance at out-of-hours meetings or council committees.
