Are you an experienced Senior UX Designer seeking an opportunity to work for a leading UK homelessness charity? Then join Shelter and you could soon be playing a vital role at the heart of our Digital team.

About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team
Shelter’s cross-functional digital team spans front and back-end development, UX design, user research, content design and more. We’re responsible for leading the development and implementation of Shelter’s overall digital strategy and making sure best practice is applied to all online activities. And, as a result of a new organisational strategy, we’ve received additional investment to expand our capacity to meet the challenges ahead. In short, there’s never been a better time to join us.

About the role
As a Senior UX Designer, you’ll be responsible for designing inclusive digital products and experiences that are user centred and meet accessibility standards. We’ll rely on you to ensure that our products and services provide the best experience for our users by translating research insights into actionable design decisions.

You can design at scale and are confident coaching and mentoring others in design best practice.
You’ll also be exploring opportunities through prototypes and facilitating workshops or research to test hypothesis and gather feedback. Put simply, you’ll do all you can to help ensure that Shelter is at the leading edge in digital design.

We are happy to talk about flexible working and opportunities for professional development. We offer a diverse and inclusive workplace in which you can thrive and be yourself.

About you
You’ll need to be comfortable designing responsive websites and applications and be familiar with tools such as Figma/Sketch/Balsamiq/Axure or similar.

Collaboratively defining best practices and developing our design system are important aspects of the role.  You will also need to ensure that our services provide the best experience for our users through understanding and translating research insights.

Last but not least, you will need to be confident working with development teams to deliver digital products and services as part of a multi-disciplinary agile team.
