Title: Sepas Assistant
Salary: £12 per hour (£9,984 per annum)
Hours:Part time: 16 hours per week:
Fixed 7 hours Sunday 9.30am to 4.30pm;
Remaining 9 hours generally worked between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday - flexibility available by agreement with manager.
Contract: Fixed Term until December 2024

Job Summary:
In early 2014 Liverpool Cathedral started 'Sepas', a Persian congregation where the worship and teaching is in Farsi or translated into English. The Sepas Assistant’s responsibilities include providing administrative and practical support to ensure efficient operation of the Sepas team and service. You will support the Canon for Mission and Faith Development (currently Canon Neal Barnes), and the Sepas LML (currently Dr. Saro Esmaeili) in the work of Sepas through a variety of tasks related to operation, organisation and communication, being a part of the Sepas leadership team, and helping to teach on Sepas Baptism and Confirmation courses, leadership courses and Bible studies. You will be required to undertake safeguarding training at Basic, Foundation and Safer Recruitment levels.
Key responsibilities include:-
Sunday worship
- Administrative support for the Sepas teams: There are small teams of volunteers who lead the music, run the audio-visuals, translate, offer hospitality and welcome. The post-holder will liaise with the leader of each team and coordinate their involvement.
- Preaching at the Sunday Sepas services, as part of a rota.
- Assisting in the preparation of Sunday service materials: To include circulating the Order of Service to those involved in leading worship.
Discipleship programmes
- Assisting in the teaching of Sepas discipleship and nurture courses and groups, notably the Baptism and Confirmation preparation courses (currently Sunday mornings) and pre-ceremony interviews, and the weekly hybrid Bible studies (currently Sunday afternoons).
Pastoral support
- Assisting the LML and Canon Neal in supporting those in the asylum process through writing letters and, where necessary, attendance at asylum tribunals.
- Assisting with pastoral care including appropriate pastoral visits in compliance with the Safer Working Practice for Home Visits.
Administration
1. To oversee registration by entering information into an Excel file for the following:
- Baptism Course, Confirmation Course, English classes, Bible studies and newcomers’ registration.
- Safeguarding: assisting the LML with the Induction sessions for new members, maintaining the Sepas safeguarding file, and keeping volunteer records up to date and compliant with the recommendations of the 2023 Sepas Internal Safeguarding Audit.
2. Administration
- Helping to prepare court and immigration letters
- Preparing Baptism and Confirmation certificates and packs
3. Room Bookings
- Checking the weekly Requests List
- Book rooms for Sepas meetings as required
4. Sunday service preparation
- Coordinate between Sepas teams involved in Sunday services including the Worship, AV, Hospitality, and Sunday school teams.
- Create Power Points for Sunday services
- Check the supplies for Sunday service and other activities during the week.
- Checking readers’ rota
· Shopping for Sepas
· Create and print the “Verse of the week” handout
· Prepare monthly expenses claim forms
5. Sunday Duties
· Checking the doors are opened and closed before and after services.
· Checking the needs of the teams serving at Sepas
· Coordination between the teams
· Ensure all required equipment is in place for services and the social time afterwards
· Make arrangements when required for Holy Communion, Baptism or Confirmation
· Helping the Vergers to arrange the seats in Lady Chapel
6. Sepas meetings
· Arranging seats and distributing Bibles
· Managing registration
· Managing tea and coffee with the welcome team
· Maintaining contact with Sepas members through phone calls, visits, WhatsApp and email.
- Other relevant duties as may be requested from time to time and commensurate with the role
