The Service Manager is a senior leadership role within the Assurance Directorate. Supporting the Head of Consumer and Public Protection, you will implement strategic & operational plans, manage budgets and monitor developments within Food, Safety and Pest Control to ensure the improvement and delivery of set targets and outcomes.

You will be given the resources to manage a team of professional enforcement officers and utilise your communication skills to inspire others to stay committed to the adherence of legislation, statutory duties, policies & procedures including FSA & HSE requirements whilst aspiring to improve the service.

About Directorate

The Assurance and Public Protection directorate ensures democratic accountability of council services. The directorate work together to monitor and ensure compliance and provide assurance of Barnet being an engaged and effective council that protects the public purse. They provide enforcement services that engage and protect residents and businesses to support a safer and healthier borough.

About the role

To support the Head of Consumer and Public Protection in the comprehensive and legally robust delivery of Food, Safety and Pest Control Service. To lead the professional enforcement officers within Food, Safety and Pest Control Team in respect of strategic development; operational development and delivery; some budgetary control and management of teams; adherence to legislation, statutory duties and all relevant policies and procedures. The role will act as the professional lead and have full accountability for Food, Safety and Pest Control team and continually improve the service.

About you

  • At least 5 years staff management experience at a senior level.
  • Experience of performance management and project management techniques.
  • Experience of taking enforcement action and up to date knowledge of legislation in relevant area.
  • Ability to work effectively, flexibly and constructively with colleagues in a team where team members work positively to a shared goal.
