SHEQ ADVISOR- FOR OUR POWER DIVISION- PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE IS MAINLY SITE BASED AND WILL ONLY REQUIRE YOU TO GO TO OFFICE AT EITHER HEAD OFFICE POTTERS BAR OR RIVER ROAD IN BARKING DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE

Role Description

To assist in the management in the health, safety, quality and environmental matters within JSM Group through the provision of professional advice and solutions, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice

Principle Duties and Accountabilities

To develop and implement Health and Safety best practice, ensuring the Company complies with current health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to employment and service provision. To work proactively with all levels of management, so to establish and maintain a safe system of work and a safe environment for colleagues and clients.

Roles and Responsibilities

• To advise and assist in the planning and promotion of health, safety, environment and quality programs and establishing a suitable organisation to put them into effect

• To interpret and advise on the implementation of company’s policies, procedures and safe systems of work

• Ensure that the requirements under the company’s integrated management system are followed accordingly and to ensure that the contracts you cover are doing the same.

• Discharge your specific duties for matters regarding health, safety, welfare, environment and quality as defined in the company policy and in any procedures, efficiently and effectively.

• Monitor the health, safety, environment and quality performance on the contracts under your control and take such steps as are necessary to improve the performance.

• Carryout out regular site, compound and CDM audits. There is a minimum requirement of one site audit a month on each team and sub-contractor working on your contracts. both direct and sub-contracted employees. This may require working out of hours from time to time.

• Ensure that CDM sites are compliant, and the relevant documentation is in place and in date

• Ensure site notice boards are current and are erected in the appropriate place

• Attend clients contract meetings as and when required

• Carryout company inductions for all new starters and ensure that the relevant paperwork has been completed in its entirety along with undertaking re-inductions for existing employees and contractors

• Undertake sub-contractor evaluation

• Preparation of pre-qualification questionnaire’s (PQQs) and tender documentation

• Compile and submit monthly KPIs within the required timescales.

• Investigate the root causes of accidents, the circumstances leading up to them, introduce preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence and compiling the required reports and forwarding them to the SHEQ Manager in a timely manner.

• Ensure all levels of staff under your influence receive adequate and appropriate training in health, safety, quality and environmental matters and help managers to identify any training gaps that employees require further training

• Facilitate employee rep meetings and record minutes of the meeting. Ensure that any actions arising from the meetings has the name of the person who is responsible for closing out the action and a close out date

• Ensure that when employees have done well, they are praised, where they have contributed to a change within the company they are informed, and actions arising from employee rep meetings and similar the results are fed back to the employee/contractor

• Co-ordinate with the SHEQ Department in all health, safety, environment and quality matters.

• Set a good personal example, wearing the required protective equipment for the site you are entering

• Ensure so far as you are able, that effective arrangements exist to protect the health and safety of your work force and ensure that all relevant operational and emergency procedures, codes of practice, instructions and legislation are implemented and observed.

• Shall be accountable to the SHEQ manager in respect of health, safety, quality and environmental matters.

• Responsible for exercising a general duty of care for the health, safety, environmental, quality and welfare of employees under your control instituting effective arrangements for the efficient implementation of company health and safety strategies, operational procedures and safe systems of work.

• Notify any changes in your duties to all others who may be affected by these changes.

• Shall ensure strict adherence to the reporting and recording procedures for accidents and dangerous occurrences as required under RIDDOR. • Shall manage health, safety, environmental and quality effectively in the same way you manage other aspects of the job

. • Shall be responsible for providing specialist advice on the company's safety policy and procedures and compliance with statutory obligations throughout the company.

• Shall monitor arrangements to ensure that health and safety standards applied by contractors are satisfactory and in accordance with contract and company specifications, policy and procedures.

• Shall ensure that site employees work in accordance with the company’s health and safety requirements, policy’s and procedures along with the client’s requirements

• Shall recommend disciplinary procedures where any member of site supervisory staff fails to discharge their safety responsibilities satisfactorily.

• Shall take appropriate action when notified of disregard of safety on site

• Shall ensure the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for persons working in or visiting any company operation, site and/or premises.

• Shall monitor provision and effectiveness of adequate and existing welfare facilities

• Promote the reporting of near misses throughout the company

• You are required to work at any site on which the Company operates, as authorised and as determined by the needs of the business. You will not be required to work outside the United Kingdom.

• Ensure that the specific safety requirements for both the DNO’s and National Grid are adhered too

• Ensure that the requirements under the National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) are implemented and maintained

. • To regularly undertake technical/quality audits to be undertaken

Skills and Requirements:

• Good spoken and written communication skills

• Good negotiation skills

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail

• The ability to cope under pressure

• The ability to understand and interpret relevant laws

• Computer literacy

• Report writing

• Self-motivated but able to work as part of a team

• Trustworthiness and discretion when handling confidential information

• A smart appearance and professional manner

Qualifications / Competency

• NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 Certificate

• Minimum 5 years’ experience working for either DNO’s and/or National Grid

• Minimum 5 years’ experience working within live substations

• Minimum 5 years’ experience working within the construction industry

• Must either currently hold or have held a BESC and/or Persons qualification

• EUSR or CSCS in general health and safety

• Proficient in Accident/Incident investigation

• Proficient in compiling Reports

• Competent in Word and Excel

• Experience in being able to deliver training to various class sizes
