An international packaging manufacturer with over 350 locations across the world and produces a range of recycled packaging products for the European corrugated case making industry.
About the role:
Looking for a Shift Manager to oversee the production, quality, safety, and environmental aspects of our operation. You will be responsible for managing a crew of production staff, ensuring that they follow safe working methods and procedures, and delivering high-quality products to our customers.
Main Duties of the Shift Manager:
- Engage and participate in the continuous improvement culture of the company, and support and implement new technology, work methods, and improvement initiatives
- Manage health and safety, environmental, and quality standards and regulations, and report any issues or incidents to the relevant authorities and senior team
- Conduct appraisals, 1-1s, training, and development with all crew members to ensure their potential and flexibility
- Use the company’s policies and procedures to manage the production process, the crew performance, and any conflict or absence issues
- Ensure the quality and efficiency of the production, and the specification and output of the finished goods
- Maintain and develop your skills and assist with the development and training of colleagues
- Maintain housekeeping and supervise the yard, warehouse, and despatch operation outside of office hours
- Direct labour and arrange overtime cover to maintain the continuity of the operation
- Liaise closely with the Production Superintendents and senior team, and communicate and assist other departments during the breakdowns
- Perform any reasonable tasks as may be required
Candidate Experience:
- Experience as a Shift Manager or similar role
- Experience in same industry or similar: heavy / heavy steel industry / manufacturing or industrial environment (paper or packaging industry is advantageous)
- Knowledge of Company Policy on Health & Safety/Quality and Environmental
- Basic lean tools such as 5s / SOPs / KPIs
- Experience gleaned on PM4 or equivalent paper machines (desirable)
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of production staff and to handle any performance or disciplinary issues
- HNC or Equivalent – gained or in the process of being gained
- Proficient in Word and Excel with the ability to generate graphs from data collated
- Flexibility to work different shifts, including nights and weekends, as required.
