The Role

Hutchison Ports (UK) - Port of Felixstowe is the largest deep-water Port in the UK and to support our continued growth and development we are looking to recruit Shift Supervisors. Shift Supervisors are an essential part of our management structure. They are frontline leaders that set direction, motivate and ensure the operational teams are focused on the delivery of our customers’ expectations.

Reporting to Operations Delivery Managers, our Shift Supervisors are responsible for supervising all operational aspects of a variety of areas, including the supervision and allocation of resource and equipment

While being proactive in monitoring, recording and reporting, Shift Supervisors ensure all operational activities are coordinated to achieve planned objectives in the safest, most efficient and cost-effective manner. As a Shift Supervisor you may find yourself working in one of several different supervisor positions from the Quayside to Rail or within one of our operational hub mess rooms. Successful applicants will be assigned according to aptitude and experience.

Key Requirement

· To support and maintain a safe working environment; manage identified risks; monitor and intervene in real time; ensure direct reports are afforded adequate facilities to deliver good safety standards.

· Maximising the productivity levels, customer service and eliminate avoidable operational delays.

· Taking an active role in pre-shift and pre-operational briefing and planning meetings.

· Participate in pre and post operational briefings compiling relevant reports and issue lists to promote continuous improvement.

· To assist and support the Operational Team with the allocation of labour and preparing labour reports.

· Ensure compliance to all policies, procedures, standard operating practices, with recommendations for action and continuous improvement.

· Ensure adherence to planned activities, actively contribute to change initiatives and support the business in future growth and sustainability outputs.

Who are we looking for?

Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria:

Essential:

· Container Operations experience (or demonstrable transferable operational experience).

· Demonstrate good leadership capability, particularly in the Safety environment.

· Demonstrate an aptitude for working in a process driven environment.

· Have an interest in further developing their career through supported learning and active experience.

· Work to high personal standards exhibiting great communications and leadership skills.

· Show commitment to our business goals, particularly in meeting key Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion targets.

In addition, applicants should:

· Have good numeracy, IT and literacy skills (formal qualifications are not essential but are desirable).

· Show emotional intelligence to help steer processes and avoid conflict in varying situations.

· Be an effective communicator; show ability to influence, engage directly with others, both individually and in a group environment.

· Show willingness to support (and coach) team members and colleagues in the pursuit of improvements to operational and safety related activities.

· Act, and treat others, with integrity.
