Purpose

PerkinElmer is looking for a Director, Site Leader of Production for our Llantrisant, UK production facility.  This role will have overall responsibility for the strategy, improvement and management of all production and logistical operations at this location to execute and meet financial and operational targets for the site. 

This position holds accountability for: strategic and tactical planning, manufacturing (production, assembly, engineering, and logistics), along with continuous improvement, EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety), facility maintenance, quality assurance and regulatory compliance of an ISO 9001 ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 facility.  In addition, the Site Leader is a steward of the company’s Core Values, ensuring that employees and teams work collaboratively and professionally.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Strategic and tactical, long- and short-term planning for site operations; together with the Managing Director, developing the Annual Operating Plan and setting the financial and operational targets for the manufacturing site.
  • Meeting site goals through effective leadership of site functions, including those where a direct reporting relationship may not exist.
  • Ensures the quality of the logistical chain and makes sure the whole operation (warehousing, production, and shipping) is compliant with (inter)national legislation.
  • Establishing and meeting or exceeding site Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Directing, monitoring, and appraising the performance of site operations
  • Evaluating and enhancing organizational tools and workflow systems
  • Demonstrating flexibility/adaptability while handling day-to-day challenges confidently, adjusting to multiple demands and shifting priorities in an environment of ambiguity and rapid change
  • Having overall responsibility to ensure the health and safety of employees and the site.
  • Initiating and coordinating major projects, (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.)
  • Developing systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Interacting regularly with senior management on executive-level matters relating to growth, profitability, and operational efficiency
  • Participating actively in the Sales, Inventory, Operations and Planning (SIOP) process
  • Communicating concise and comprehensive manufacturing status and priorities to leadership and program teams
  • Leading site operations related communications with all stakeholders and keeping employees informed as to company/department plans and progress.
  • Having accountability for the operational readiness of the production environment and providing management support and direction during emergency/crisis situations (system and facility)
  • Identifying operational and technological factors that impact customer satisfaction and revenue and proactively making recommendations for strategic change and/or process improvement.
  • Proposing and driving any necessary capital expenditure and maintenance plans to deliver revenue expectation, improve overall productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Promoting a working environment that encourages employee involvement to achieve operational excellence.
  • Leveraging PerkinElmer networks: building strong relationships with internal and external resources/vendors
  • Providing leadership and development to a team of professionals that sets high quality standards for performance and is committed to organizational goals, including assigning responsibilities; hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees; assessing and recommending appropriate staffing levels; managing employee performance; and providing helpful feedback and training opportunities.
  • Driving employee engagement, training, and development to maximize safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Establishing objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities, issuing specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates and reviews objectives of the operations management.

Basic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Management, or related program is required.
  • 15 or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of five years of management experience in a production environment, with the responsibilities of producing, inventory control, supply chain, production control and engineering, as well as site logistics
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in using SAP and ERP/MRP systems

Preferred Characteristics

  • Master of Business Administration degree
  • Prior experience working and managing in an ISO 9001 ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 regulated factory that produces complex electro-mechanical equipment, preferably within the life science or diagnostic industries.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, develop and motivate employees and teams to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills – an ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with all levels of the organization; ability to recognize and adapt to diverse personalities with tact and maturity.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to senior leadership, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to successfully motivate and maintain high moral, employee involvement, safety and teamwork in a collaborative, matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in an ambiguous environment through Lean with substantial impact.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, teamwork & networking skills.
  • Aware of and comply with the Quality Manual, Quality Management System (QMS), Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
  • Aware of all Change management controls required both from a QMS and EHS standpoint.
  • Partner with both QA and EHS to make sure the improvements are done in a compliant, safe, and sustainable manner.
