WHAT IS IT?
Participants will get to work with creative professionals in a range of arts spaces from recording studios to galleries and develop new skills, contacts and ideas to help them get a job that they love.
If you are interested in fashion design you might also learn about music production. If you are interested in visual art you might also learn about lighting design. If you are a film-maker you might also learn about dance. You’ll definitely cover the business side of things including finance, fundraising, legal set ups and marketing to name just a few.
This is not a programme for people who want to act, sing or dance. It’s for those who want to make things and shape things from behind a sound desk or a sewing machine or a computer. It’s also for people who want to produce, curate, direct or choreograph and want to find out how other specialisms work. (This is not an exhaustive list, you could be a florist who wants to move into make-up design or you could be a student who doesn’t know what they want to do yet but think it might be something creative).
Participants will get the chance to work at Gatwick Production Studios, The Hawth, Theatre Centre and the new immersive spaces at Crawley College in Crawley.
You will have time to develop new creative ideas as well as learn about the business side of things. You won’t be expected to create anything but there will be opportunities to do so if they wish.
The programme will be shaped by the selected participants. You will be encouraged to step outside of their specialism and try new things. Explore creative sectors new to you. The programme encourages a multi-disciplinary approach.
The participants will meet musicians from AudioActive , theatre makers Suzy Wilson, Rob Watt and David Rosenberg. , visual artist Sarah Maple and work with professionals from the National Theatre, Creative Pod and many more.
You will learn about how to set up a new creative business and become a creative freelancer, how to raise and manage the money, how to market your work, how to make your work accessible and sustainable and how to raise money for it.
Creative Crawley, Theatre Centre and AudioActive are offering 10 paid places to enable people who otherwise may not be able to pursue their creative aspirations due to existing barriers such as financial or socio-economic, to take part in the project. If successful, each recipient will be paid £2000 to take part in the programme.
