Department / Role Overview

Our Social Impact programme focuses on increasing access to opportunities for those experiencing marginalisation and disadvantage, financial exclusions and/or hardship.

Our work centres around utilising the professional non-legal skills of our people to support communities in need as well as our partner community organisations across our global network.

Our Social Impact work also supports our commitment to Pro bono, Inclusion, Diversity and Belonging and the firm's IDB Action Plan. Through our Social Impact work we also proudly contribute to our Sustainability Goals.

The Social Impact Coordinator will support the Social Impact Team with the day-to-day running of the firm's global Social Impact programme with a focus on our work in Europe, Middle East and United States.

Role Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

  •  Providing support with the organisation and delivery of volunteering projects and initiatives across Ashurst's London and Glasgow offices.
  •  Working closely with the Social Impact Senior Managers (based in London) throughout the year to plan and execute our flagship social mobility programmes Access Ashurst and Access Law (more information below).
  •  Monitoring and reporting on staff and partner engagement in the Social Impact programme, including support with Ashurst's Volunteering Portal.
  •  Providing the Social Impact Managers with support on a wide range of internal and external Social Impact communications - such as intranet, monthly UK newsletter, website and social media
  •  Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  •  Occasional visits to Ashurst's London office to support the smooth running of the Social Impact programme and the Social Impact Managers - for example in the summer for the Access Ashurst legal week.
  •  Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Access Ashurst

  •  Work closely with our two Senior Social Impact Managers based in the UK throughout the year to plan and execute the programme. Key responsibilities include:
  •  Providing support with the marketing and recruitment of students, working in collaboration with charity partners and recruitment partners;
  •  Providing technical support with the firm's Applicant Tracking System (ATS) CV Mail. Running reports on student recruitment statistics.
  •  Acting as a key point of contact for student enquiries.
  •  Administrative and planning support for student interviews.
  •  Working closely with the People & Culture team to oversee the student new joiner and onboarding process.
  •  Processing of student travel expenses.

Access Law

  •  Work closely with Senior Social Impact Managers throughout the year to plan and execute the programme. Key responsibilities include:
    •  Providing support with programme marketing and student recruitment, working in collaboration with a range of charity and recruitment partners;
    •  Providing technical and administrative support with the firm's Applicant Tracking System (ATS) CV Mail.
    •  Acting as a key point of contact for student enquiries.
    •  Providing technical and administrative support with the programme.

Glasgow Office

  •  Work closely with Senior Social Impact Managers and the Glasgow Social Impact Committee to support the delivery of volunteering activities in the Glasgow office. To include:
    •  Coordinating the Future Ready and Chapter One programmes. The Future ready programme t supports local secondary school students to develop their knowledge of careers and key employability skills. The Chapter One programme supports primary school students virtually with their reading and comprehension. The Social Impact Coordinator will be involved with all aspects of these programmes - including: volunteer recruitment and communications, planning and event management, impact reporting etc.
    •  Contributing to the goals and objectives of the Glasgow Social Impact Committee, a key aim of which is to oversee the Glasgow Office's Charity Partner.
    •  Organising small and large group volunteering projects for the Glasgow office.

Essential Skills and Experience

  •  A passion for Social Impact and supporting people facing marginalisation, disadvantage and financial hardship.
  •  Strong people skills which can be adapted to working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  •  Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
  •  Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  •  Excellent IT and administrative skills, with proficiency in using Microsoft Office software applications - particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  •  Ability to work as part of a small team as well as independently.
