Job description

The Junior Premier League is the largest elite youth football development league in England which includes both boys and girl’s football. We are seeking to expand our team and require a dynamic, skilled Social Media Manager who ideally has knowledge and a passion for football, both youth and adult.

The Social Media Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution and coordination of social marketing programs and projects, across multiple Social Media accounts, both national and international. We are looking for a candidate with a minimum of 5 years experience in Social Media and staff management that can bring their knowledge and skills to increase the Social Media followers across all countries that have JPL leagues.

He/she/they will be a creative and well-organised Social Media-minded individual who has a growing understanding of Social Media as a marketing service, interest in crafting content and familiarity with social platform utility. The ideal candidate will have proven success developing and executing new website / Social Media campaigns and Social Media activations whilst showcasing competency with copywriting and a journalistic flair for football.

The JPL Social Media Manager will be responsible for the Social Media team and have experience in managing a team.

This is not an entry level role, we're looking for candidates with experience within the area, please review the criteria for the role before applying.Special considerations in this role:

As our games are played on a Saturday, you will have to be available to do posts and monitor Social Media activity on a Saturday. This full time hours for this role are 37.5 hours (including 8 hours on a Saturday).

You will be required to attend various games & finals on Saturdays throughout the season, so you will be required to travel on Saturdays when required.

Some national/ international travel may be necessary (expenses will be paid).

Job description/ main responsibilities:

  • To ensure that the JPL’s information and communication methods are effective, customer-centred and responsive
  • Manage various JPL group accounts across all Social Media platforms and countries.
  • Create and deliver innovative social strategies to increase followers across all Social Media platforms.
  • Create eye catching content, in the form of engaging copy and images - perfect grammar and spelling is a must.
  • To be actively responding to all Social Media comments/ DM’s/ messages across all Social Media platforms.
  • Develop an ongoing content calendar and strategy aligned to the JPL's overall Communications Strategy
  • Be on top and ahead of Social Media trends.
  • Provide video and photography support as needed at Junior Premier League events, including finals/ tournaments and international tours.
  • Plan, shoot, produce and edit content for all Junior Premier League’s channels, including writing scripts as required and if required, conducting interviews.
  • Research and monitor activity of company competitors.
  • Create and distribute engaging written or graphic content in the form of e-newsletters, web pages and blog content, and Social Media content.
  • To ensure that information on the JPL websites is current, relevant and updated in a timely manner; to support other e-communications as directed, ensuring the correct adoption of relevant tone of voice and language appropriate to all publications.
  • To take responsibility of activity hosted via JPL Social Media channels, ensuring social content is prepared, shared and monitored across all Social Media channels, predominantly, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
  • To actively plan and create interesting, relevant and captivating campaigns to be shared across Social Media channels, showing an understanding of the subject matter and audience engagement priorities.
  • To support the promotion of the services of the JPL’s sponsors and partners, consistently monitoring, editing and utilising the content calendar and software; and to support the promotion and services of the JPL’s clubs and provide help with Social Media to them.
  • The Social Media Manager will be in regular contact with our sponsors via meetings online and in person and will be responsible for ensuring that the content that the JPL creates for them increases traffic to their website and increases their sales.
  • To regularly gather and analyse social, print and visual media analytics and coverage and identify then act upon opportunities to increase the JPL Group’s profile.
  • To attend and assist with JPL Group events as and when required, including the promotion, coverage and round-ups of all events to ensure consistent promotion across all aspects of the organisation’s event spectrum.
  • To be able to research the international business in the JPL and know the requirements of the relevant Social Media in each country.
  • To have a knowledge of PR and writing press releases
  • To ensure that the staff in your team are performing to the standards required by the JPL.
  • To attend regular meetings with the management team to discuss Social Media performance/ targets.
  • To participate in training, development and appraisal processes necessary to fulfil the role.
  • To act with high standards of professionalism, business integrity and personal conduct at all times.
  • To act as an ambassador for the JPL Group in the conduct of all business.
  • To comply with the JPL Group’s safeguarding requirements and to contribute to the delivery of the JPL Group’s safeguarding plans.
  • To conduct any other duties as may reasonably be required by the employer.
  • To be able to travel nationally and internationally as required.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in day-to-day Social Media management (multiple accounts), staff management and website content creation - preferably in the sports arena.
  • Knowledge of football (boys and girls) is preferred, but not essential.
  • Channel copywriting and calendar management is essential.
  • Must have impeccable spelling and grammar.
  • Experience within a team environment – you will be collaborating with everyone in the team to meet deadlines and develop campaigns.
  • Must be a critical thinker and possess proven problem-solving skills.
  • Overall social knowledge of platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, Tik Tok and more.
  • Previous knowledge of Social Media analytics and scheduling software (Sprout Social, Databox, Google Analytics, Facebook/Twitter Insights, etc.) would be welcome.
  • Demonstrable ability using Adobe Creative suite apps; Premiere Pro & Photoshop in particular and Hoot Suite.
  • Ability to deliver content against tight deadlines and able to respond to quick changes whilst remaining calm and focused.
  • Good photography skills.

Desirable Qualifications & skills

  • An appreciation of the principles and concepts of working to support a membership organisation
  • An understanding of the market sensitivities of working in an environment providing services for children
  • Experience of working with commercial sponsors
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about sport
  • Full driving licence preferred due to requirement to travel

Pay: £37,500

Hours: Full time - 37.5 hours per week (including 8 hours on a Saturday).

Holiday: 23 days per year including festive period and public holidays rising to a maximum of 28 days, plus bank holidays
