Team/Specialism: Assessment & Intervention/Duty

Pay Rate: £38.50 per hour (assignment rate)

Contract: Locum, 3-Months

Hours: Full-time

Duties:

  • Work directly with children, young people and families to provide focused and purposeful systemically-informed social work within practice framework, with explicit aims and objectives about desired outcomes which are proportionate to each child’s identified risk and need
  • Establish rapport, build and maintain professional, respectful, and honest relationships with children, young people their families, and professional networks, to develop trust and assist in safeguarding children, resolving conflict and promoting positive and timely outcomes
  • Deliver social work practice which is informed by statutory guidance, best evidence, and research knowledge
  • Present complex information in writing and in person in a range of settings, including professional input at meetings such as child protection conferences, Looked After Child reviews, fostering or adoption panels, youth justice panels, and representing at Court
  • Maintain case records and management information on appropriate systems, ensuring that case files are organised and up to date
  • Manage and organise complex information, producing comprehensive, analytic, high quality reports which evaluate the most appropriate interventions and make cogent arguments based on evidence
  • Observe and talk with children and young people in their various environments to help understand their physical and emotional worlds and patterns of development, taking account of typical development over time, including the quality of child and parent/carer interaction
  • Access the help of other professionals to ensure children’s best interests are prioritised whilst vulnerable adults are safeguarded
  • Lead investigations of concerns about significant harm, in consultation with managers and other professionals
  • Devise, implement and review care plans, including the development and management of protection plans within a child protection framework

Requirements of the Social Worker:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Knowledge of childcare legislation, statutory guidance and the London Child Protection Procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors and risk and protective factors
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues in children's social work practice, particularly in relation to child protection and planning of interventions
  • Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of key children's agencies
  • Experience of direct social work with children and their families
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team and balancing personal workload
  • Experience of preparing reports and presenting these within formal settings, such as court proceedings, fostering or adoption panels, youth justice panels, or other formal settings
  • Experience of successfully working in an anti-discriminatory way including addressing issues of racism, inequality and injustice
  • Must be able to provide evidence of continuing professional development in line with the Professional Capability Framework for Social Workers, to include either successful completion of ASYE year, or significant recent experience in a social work role within a statutory setting, working with children and families, and attendance to appropriate training
  • Willing to undertake a DBS check
