An exciting opportunity is available within Adult Care, Housing and Public Health, as an experienced Social Worker working in our First Contact Team.

The post is based within the ‘Front Door’ of Adult Social Care where the focus is to ensure that the adults of Rotherham and their carers are enabled to prioritise their well-being, maximise assets, promote independence and ensure vulnerable adults are safeguarded appropriately when needed.

As a Social Worker in the First Contact Team, you will be responsible for screening referrals and enquiries over the telephone and providing a response to our customers who may attend Riverside House.

You will be screening safeguarding concerns and completing section 42 initial enquiries. There will be a focus on protection planning, making safeguarding personal, empowerment and working with partners, including the Police, NHS professionals and housing colleagues.

You will support customers to maximise their independence and personal outcomes through the provision of comprehensive advice, information, practical support, and signposting. Focusing on strengths, prevention, early intervention, and the promotion of wellbeing throughout your practice.

You will ensure that customers receive the right support, advice, and information at the time they need it.

About you

We are looking for an experienced registered Social Worker who shares our vision and aspirations for people – someone who wants to make a difference.

As our ideal candidate you will:

Have knowledge and experience of applying statutory legal framework and policies including the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Making Safeguarding Personal.

Be confident in working at pace in challenging situations, to make sound decisions quickly to support those in crisis and to ensure people are seen and supported in a timely manner.

Have experience of working with health colleagues, voluntary sector organisations and other partner agencies to help people find solutions to maximise their independence and resilience and enable people to take positive risks and achieve their goals.

You will demonstrate initiative and be able respond independently to unexpected situations.

Our offer

The successful applicant will be joining a supportive and motivated team who value learning and work closely with other professionals in the area.

A full induction and training are provided as well as regular supervision and team meetings.

Flexible working arrangements including hybrid working to help you get the right work life balance.

A huddle every morning to keep you connected with your team - time to share ideas and celebrate successes.

An employee assistance programme for any work and personal related support

A range of staff representation networks groups, which you are able to join and contribute to discussions and ideas to move the Council forwards.

Staff engagement sessions and Employee Opinion Surveys

A positive learning environment with access to a wealth of resources and practice guidance, and high-quality training opportunities for all staff, plus support from our in-house Professional Practice Team.
