We have a vacancy for an experienced Social Worker to join our specialist Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) team in the Looked After and Leaving Care Service. This post is countywide and so flexible and smarter working is encouraged with the primary base identified as Home Brewery Building (Arnold, Nottinghamshire).

You will be part of an experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary team consisting of Looked After Social Workers, Leaving Care Personal Advisors, an Achievement Adviser, Social Work Practice Consultant as well as links with our UASC Wellbeing Workers and UASC Youth Worker. The UASC Team primarily supports Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) transferring to the care of Nottinghamshire via the mandated National Transfer Scheme, as well as responding to those children seeking asylum who present to the local authority directly. Therefore, you will work with an allocated caseload of looked after children as well as participate in a team duty system, so the ability to respond effectively to children and young people is essential.

Looked after children can face many challenges in life, especially those who identify as seeking asylum, therefore you need an ability to engage with children and young people and overcome challenges through developing positive relationships. You will need to maintain good quality records, complete actions for looked after children in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation, advocate with other agencies, plan and co-ordinate multi-agency support so excellent communication skills are essential. As you will be supporting children seeking asylum then experience and knowledge of the asylum process, children's journey's to the UK and age assessment legislation and guidance is essential.

You will support children and young people across Nottinghamshire as well as some who live out of county area. Working from home and smarter working is encouraged by Nottinghamshire County Council and you will be able to access multiple office bases across the county. However, your identified office base is at Home Brewery Building, Sir John Robinson Way, Arnold, Nottinghamshire, NG5 6DB.

For further information please contact either Wendy Rylands (UASC Team Manager - Mon-Weds only) on 0115 8040072 or via wendy.rylands@nottscc.gov.uk or Jess Anderson (UASC Team Manager) on 0115 8041420 or via jess.anderson@nottscc.gov.uk
