Software Engineer - Team Lead

Really fast-paced SaaS organisation based in Edinburgh are looking for a personable Engineering Team Lead to look after a small Agile squad of Software Engineers – really flexible working and modern tech on offer.

They’ve been running now for over ten years and have over 100+ customers that use their products daily – they’re designed to improve / speed up some business operations and cut down on paper waste. Their product is widely used throughout the UK and they’ve recently started to take on new business in the EU and US, and they’ve got big plans for the next few years.

Their development function is currently over 20 strong, and they work in small Agile squads, each with different project work. They’re currently looking for a new Team Lead to look after a squad of 4, where you’ll be responsible for the line management of these individuals, finding out what work is needing done, distributing this and managing their workloads. You’ll be running their two weekly SPRINTS, leading the morning stand-ups, and at the same time still being hands on with project work.

The company work with a really modern tech stack; PHP, Laravel, AWS, VueJS and TypeScript and although experience with this would be great – they’re ideally looking for someone with a good PHP background and strong coding skills. No two days will be the same here, so in terms of the split of hands on and hands off work, this will frequently change depending on the nature of projects – so they’re looking for someone really adaptable too.

You’ll ideally have experience with most of the following;

** Project Leadership / Line Management of other Developers

** Strong programming experience (ideally with PHP / Laravel)

** Working with Cloud Services (ideally AWS)

** Working within an Agile environment

** Strong communication skills

The following is highly desirable;

** DevOps knowledge / experience

** Automated Testing

** A close match to their tech stack

Most importantly, they’re looking for someone with a real passion for people leadership / management. The organisation have other routes for Engineers to progress up through the ranks without dipping their toes in management, so for this position they're looking for someone that really enjoys people management, as they appreciate it's not everyone's passion.

They’re based in central Edinburgh, with good links to public transport and onsite parking. For the first three months you’ll be expected onsite three days a week to help you familiarise yourself with the role, tools, product and team. Once you’re up to speed you’re able to work fully remote – providing you pop in for the big meetings.

In return they can offer a salary from £45k to £65k for this role + a fairly comprehensive list of benefits.
