About your next employer
The post holder supports the Head of Legal and Advocacy Services by managing and leading the organisation’s casework and legal affairs.
The Legal Officer works closely with the Commissioner, Chief Executive, Head of Legal and Advocacy Services, and stakeholder organisations and it is therefore imperative that effective working relationships are developed and fostered.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute significantly to broader organisational objectives based on their involvement and responsibilities for policy/procedural review, continuous improvement, research & development, and stakeholder focus.
About you
- Possess a degree in law or legal studies
- Be qualified as a solicitor entitled to practice in NI
- 3 years post qualification experience in either constitutional law, administrative law, contract law, employment law, civil litigation, human rights law, family law.
- Experience of researching and drafting legal policy papers
- Experience of handling investigations and enquiries leading to legal casework
What you’ll do
- Formulate and oversee the maintenance of the organisations legal assistance and casework, in line with the company’s overall policies.
- Undertake and manage legal research and produce recommendations to government for legislative change.
- Develop and deliver business plans and programmes of work for the Legal Division.
- Ensure the appropriate procedures, controls and structures are in place for the effective, efficient management of casework and monitor their outputs and outcomes.
- Ensure appropriate action is taken to minimise risk of judicial review when conducting formal investigations.
- Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity and maintain professional standards throughout the Legal Division.
