We are looking for a Specialist Adviser to join our Executive team in the Professional Practice Directorate ELS team, to support with the fitness to practice improvement plan.
About the role
The Specialist Adviser will have a key role in providing up-to-date senior and strategic professional expertise and advice to the NMC executive and Council, and all of the NMC’s operational functions.
The Specialist Adviser is responsible for providing senior strategic clinical assessment, insight and recommendations to executive director colleagues relating to our fitness to practise function.
Working with colleagues, you’ll have a lead role in supporting the review of the appropriate standards of education, behaviour and conduct for nurses, midwives and nursing associates.
Participate in high-quality consultation and stakeholder engagement exercises to ensure the development of new or revised nursing and midwifery Code, rules, standards and practice guidelines.
About you
This role would be suitable for someone who is a registered nurse with postgraduate qualification, who has senior level, strategic, clinical and leadership experience of managing and reviewing clinical investigations and understanding of the health and care sector across the UK.
They will entail senior organisational and corporate level experience in a complex organisation and take ownership of decision making based on sound evidence, including clinical governance and disciplinary hearings.
They will have a proven track record of building and maintaining senior level relationships and working in partnership with key stakeholders.
They will have evidence of successful development and implementation of strategic plans. They will be able to show clear evidence of working effectively as a collaborative and supportive team member.
Show resilience and be able to remain calm in challenging situations and negotiate a range of solutions whilst maintaining confidentiality around case management.
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Entail excellent people leadership skills and proven ability to motivate, develop and hold to account large and diverse teams.
Demonstrates an understanding of and a commitment to, the principles of equal opportunities and diversity with a non-discriminatory approach to cultural communication differences.
Evidenced understanding of the role of a professional regulator, with knowledge of UK regulatory legislation and how this links to the NMC’s own legislative order and rules including the code and its practice.
Understanding and experience of interim orders and thresholds and reviews. Expert knowledge of current nursing/midwifery issues and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and clinical practice relevance.
Demonstrates an understanding of research, and ability to critically appraise evidence and interim orders.
