The post will be based at the Maidstone Hospital to help deliver Specialist Speech and Language therapy to adult clients as part of multidisciplinary Stroke team. In addition, there will also be the opportunity to provide some rehab sessions to our unit in Sevenoaks.The Trust is delighted to have been chosen as one of the sites for a Hyperacute Stroke Unit in the Kent and Medway Sustainability Transformation, and the post holder will be integral to this exciting and transformative service. Candidates will be enthusiastic, flexible and engaging with a specialist interest in neurorehabilitation. Main duties of the job
You will help deliver Specialist Speech and Language therapy to the new 49 bedded Stroke ward. You will need to be autonomous in dysphagia assessment and management. You will also need excellent communication skills, a professional approach to both clinical and administrative duties, be organised with excellent prioritisation and time management skills. We run a FEES and videofluoroscopy service and experience in instrumental assessments would be desirable but is not essential as training can be provided. Variable site and weekend working will be expected.
Speech and Language Therapy currently sits within the Core Clinical Services Directorate, within the Therapies Division and is co-located with Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Dietetics, making easy work of joint working.The broader SALT team is made up of 19 SALTs and 4 SALT Assistant posts, split across both hospital sites.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or post graduate diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registered member of HCPC
- Evidence of ongoing CPD/ reflective practice
- Registered member of RCSLT
Desirable
- Post-graduate qualification in Dysphagia
Experience/ Knowledge
Essential
- Post-graduate experience working with adults in an acute setting
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice, especially in the areas of dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, dyspraxia, cognitive communication disorders and dysphonia.
Desirable
- Experience of working with stroke
- Multidisciplinary team working
- Videofluroscopy experience
- FEES experience
Skills
Essential
- Intermediate dysphagia skills
- Sound knowledge of SLT assessments used with adults in the acute setting
