Speech and Language Therapist

Job Type: Part Time, permanent

Location: Dorset BH17 8PJ

Salary: £29,269.00 - £43,421.00 Annually (FTE) Actual Salary - c. £24,796 - £36,786 per annum

Hours: Term time only plus two additional weeks (41 weeks per year)

The Role

Our client is a Multi Academy Trust which was formed in April 2015. Ofsted has recently graded all four of their wonderful schools as good or outstanding. They are extremely popular, over-subscribed, forward-thinking schools with supportive staff and fantastic children.

Due to the opening of two new Speech and Language Specialist Resourced Base Provision at Canford Heath Infant and Junior School, the MAT Trustees are looking to appoint a qualified Speech and Language Therapist who is dedicated, compassionate, and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of their children. The Resourced Base Provision will cater for children of primary age (4-11), initially accommodating a maximum of 15 children across the two bases, with anticipated growth up to a maximum of 35 children over the next three years.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide a Speech and Language therapy service to school-aged pupils with speech, language and communication needs, and associated learning difficulties.
  • To assess, diagnose and provide Speech and Language therapy to individual children and groups.
  • To have responsibility for the provision of Speech & Language Therapy for pupils attending the Canford Heath Infant and Junior School SLCN Resourced Base Provision for a specified caseload, including providing assessments, therapy intervention, therapy programmes, parent/staff training and contributing to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where required.
  • To provide advice more widely to teachers, TAs (Teaching Assistants) and parents about the Speech, Language and Communication needs of individual pupils.
  • ·To carry own caseload and be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of those pupils.
  • To be able to prioritise, set goals and monitor outcome and impact of therapy on pupil progress.
  • To liaise closely with wider school staff in order to provide advice and programmes for specific children as appropriate.
  • To liaise with the Therapy Assistants and contribute to joint planning and review sessions.
  • To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge in relation to children within a Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting.
  • To attend annual reviews when required and provide professional reports for review and follow up any necessary actions.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children
  • Experience in the delivery of speech, language and communication therapies
  • Experience of working with children preferably with SEN
  • BSc Honours in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)
  • HCPC registration
  • RCSLT registration (NQP accepted)
  • A passion for making communication accessible for the individual learner.
  • A child-centred practitioner who responds to the individual needs of each child.
  • A Speech and Language Therapist with good knowledge and understanding of a range of speech, language and communication needs, including social communication needs and appropriate communication strategies to support pupils with this need.
  • A creative and flexible therapeutic approach that builds success through challenge, personalisation and innovation.
  • The confidence and skills to build positive relationships that help to break down barriers and build self-esteem.
  • A commitment to enabling all our pupils to overcome their challenges and achieve their potential.
