Barnsley Council are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to join the team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a full time, fixed term contract until 1/04/2026. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £44,428 - £47,420 per annum.
About the Speech and Language Therapist role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented, and experienced Speech and Language Therapistto deliver a comprehensive and specialist service with the Youth Justice Service to the team, wider workforce, and the young people with whom they work.
The successful candidate will be part of a supportive, integrated multi-agency team alongside other specialist roles embedded in the Youth Justice Service including Education and Employment Workers, CAMHS workers, LD Nurse, Police Officer, Probation Officer, Youth Justice Practitioners, Social Workers, and Prevention Workers. The post holder will also be part of BMBC children’s service and will maintain strong links with partners in health, therapy services and education.
The post holder will plan, develop and co-ordinate the Speech and Language therapy service to children with numerous vulnerabilities and complex communication disorders within the Barnsley Youth Justice and Vulnerable Adolescent Service (Bsafe). There is a strong consultative element within this role.
The main duties of our Speech and Language Therapist include:
The post involves identification at a specialist level of the varying types of communication need found in this cohort of children and the provision of a menu of suitable interventions, including screening and assessment, referral on to other services, individual interventions with young people, consultation, support for group delivery and work with staff and young people to raise their awareness in this area.
The successful candidate will work closely with staff to enhance their communication skills with children who have these additional needs. As part of their work the post holder will undertake the training of Youth Justice Service staff and staff in partner agencies to raise awareness of the types of communication difficulties faced by young people and strategies to support their communication. The post holder will also provide information, advice and guidance to service leads, relevant management and strategic groups.
