As the Marketing Manager – Business and Sporting Events, you will play a pivotal role in executing "Global West Midlands," the region's business plan for July 2023 to March 2025.
The Role:
Key Responsibilities and Key Activities:
- Plan and execute marketing activities related to business tourism (MICE) and major sporting events in the West Midlands.
- Utilize research and intelligence to drive destination marketing strategies with a focus on measurable outcomes.
- Support the implementation of the Global West Midlands marketing strategy for business tourism and major sporting events.
- Manage the creation and delivery of marketing assets, including complex collateral, event marketing, and audience/stakeholder communications.
- Build relationships with domestic and international media partners to develop marketing plans.
- Develop social media strategies to raise awareness and engagement for business tourism (MICE) and major sporting events.
- Write creative briefs for in-house and external agencies to produce marketing collateral for print and digital media.
- Support procurement processes, including tendering for services, managing contracts, and collaborating with contracted suppliers.
- Manage accounts and integrated campaigns/projects, ensuring brand compliance and achieving milestones.
- Budget management and allocation.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure coordinated marketing efforts.
- Foster external relationships with West Midlands Local Authority destinations, DMOs, and business tourism/major sporting event partners.
- Contribute to the enhancement of visitor economy marketing channels and campaigns.

- Proven experience in delivering strategic and tactical marketing campaigns backed by research.
- Excellent relationship and account management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage complex stakeholder networks.
- Strong project management skills, self-motivated, and deadline-driven.
- Agency management and briefing skills.
- Experience in both B2C and B2B marketing environments.
- Creative thinker with a track record of achieving excellent outcomes.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience in the events industry, with knowledge of the MICE sector.
- Proficiency in delivering a full range of marketing activities, including campaigns, creative, brand, social media, and Events.
- Understanding of destination marketing, including campaign strategies.
- Knowledge of the West Midlands region.
- Experience in a multi-stakeholder/delivery partner environment.
- Line management experience with development and coaching activities.
